Gryphons

Kings of the Sky

In the 11 BCE these creatures had no prey, they were they prey of Dragons and wyverns. Gryphons had natural magical skills. Making them impossible to defeat in battle. Dragons can only tap into the elements of their type. Dragons have some magic abilities but compared to the gryphons, dragons are novice of magician in comparison. Back when the Keltori people were tribal people. the Keltori attempted to worship the gryphons as gods. This did not fly with them. They decided to help them and teach about magic and alchemy. In other countries and kingdoms gryphons were never able to be tamed or be that helpful to the tribal humans or elves. According to the mythology the Keltori language came from them as well. The secret magical language is the true magical language of the Keltori people. It said that those that can speak the gryphon language can control real magic and may even be able to summon them back from wherever the gryphons went.

According to the Shilen Empire

The Demons of the sky. they were worse than the dragons. If fact according to their history books. there were mages that allied themselves with the dragons and even had control of some. They did not like having their pets be eaten by the Colossus gryphons. Especially since the gryphons would not teach the Shilen elves their magical secrets.

Where did they go?

To many people around the world believe they simply migrated to another continent somewhere. The Shilen believe that they simply died off, through some sickness or a great war among the dragons and lost. If any are out there probably just broken hybrids who cannot breed and will completely disappear from this world in a thousand years or so. To the Keltori people the day of Red Sky is the day the gryphons vanished. The Keltori believe that a cult of primal mages did some deed against them and sent them away. Cursing the Keltori people forever.

Summary

Giant size bird like beast roamed the sky killing dragons that tried to kill the tribes of humans and Lurkins. Only to be saved time and time again by these masters of the sky. The dragons wanted human and the Lurkin people to serve them or eat them as food. The gryphons were the true enemy, and they were afraid of them. To scare a dragon is impressive. One of the walls down beneath Loupmont reveals the Keltori tribal humans leaning something magical from them. What those lessons were no one knows. But what is known is that half of population of the Keltori people have magic, on the other hand, there is some who have more potent magic. Some stronger magic coursing through their blood. The Keltori people call this potent magical blood gryphon blood. Those that have it are considered to be of royal blood.

Never Mounted

The gryphons in Arylon are too massive to be mounted. After all these creatures ate dragons, hunted wyverns for sport or play toys. They never wore armor. But it is believed that they could cast a magical armor if needed. There are artifacts in the Vostoria that may have gryphon feathers. There is no army that have gryphon riders in this realm or can call them to aid them in battle.
