Azurians (Azz Zur inns)

In common tongue they are called gnomes. the Azurins people are the most technological people in all of Nemid. the home of the Azurins is Aredenn.

Were they once elves?

Yes, they were. According to the Mythos of the Azurians the were the Shilen elves that were explorers, and they went north. Way North, until there was no more land to travel north on. They arrived in Wild lands with crazy energy coming from the caves. The energy was new, and the elves of this time had no idea what it was. They went spelunking in the caves and found massive crystals that radiated strange energy. Some of the elves got sick for being near it for too long. Some more elves came to help the other elves during this expedition, as more elves came, they stayed to understand and send some of the crystals back to the Homeland. They discovered more and different crystal on top of mountain tops these one seems to store electrical energy from storms and did not get anyone sick if they spend too long with it. Their leaders at the homeland were interested in the soon to called storm crystals. The Green and purple crystals that were first discovered in the first caves had to be handled differently and soon the elves crafted suits to wear to handle them. The suits got better over the years. A town was settled here, and it was called Arendon. This later became as the main capitol city of the Azurians.  

What changed them?

The change happened when the Shilen here worked and kept working with "Hearth crystals". The first crystals that they discovered the Shilen here had settled on this name for these particular crystals. this is not entirely why they changed but it did play a small part in it. The boom of the Settlement grew and the more Shilen found many different ways to use these crystals. From powering up magical Staves and wands. to powering the lights and new devices that were being created. This was happening during the time when the humans were still very tribal. The Shilen elves here loved their newfound power and realized that even the least talented magic user can become great with this industry. They did not spend any time giving thanks to the elven goddess or spent much time practicing or develop new ways to harvest and use magic. This of course was getting the goddess upset. The Shilen goddess Elune Bright-moon, not a single elf here built her a temple or statue in her honor. She visited them one day. As she walked the streets and passed the building, she was a little discussed at the way they were living their lives. She went up to the Magister of the town and told him who she was. He just waved his as to shoo her away. He was busy trying an experiment out. This made her angry. "You dare shoo me away like some child!" Azurian Thunder 'staff replied. "Why are you bothering me? I don't need you interfering with my work." and turned his back on her as he went back pick up parts to his experiment. She glared at him and the other elves who were helping Magister Thunder' staff with work. She stepped forward towards him and said in a very calming voice. "You're one of my children and I am your goddess who gave you long life and the ability to use magic easily. The Magister slammed the medal piece down on the worktable and with anger in his voice replied. "You are a spoiled child! who needs every approval of the elves to gain your power. WE have our own way now and DO NOT NEED YOU!" The lab grew silent. The goddess stared and replied. "Well, little one. I guess you no longer have need of my blessing anymore. Very well than Azurian. Before I go, I will leave you and your people here with my parting gift." She clapped her hands above her head and from that was a wooden silver branch. that was now among his things on the worktable. He grabbed it as he did, he realized it was bigger than it was on the table; in fact, everything was bigger. His lab, the table everything. The other elves in the room had changed as well. they were shorter. Azurian Thunder' staff went outside in the town, the buildings and everything was exactly as he remembered but everything was bigger. These elves were no longer the Shilen they were his elves now. The Azurians.

They thrive on brains over looks. Not to say that do not have cultural look or how they people tend to dress. The following is what other races have observed over the years. The Azurins tend to have short hair or at least up in a bun in the back. Probably, this the hair does not fall into the gears and potions they make. They do bathe at least 4-5 times in a week. Again, this was noticed by others because they tend to mess with oily things or have things blow on a morning basis.

Gender Ideals

There was a time in their history were the men worked on the clockwork machines and golems and the women would only work on the Alchemy potions and weaponry. But, since the Revolt of Trishon. The women Azurains have been included in the designs and work of the giant golems and clockwork machinery. Some of the old timers still snare at the young generation. Men in this culture still have a lot more sway in the clockwork guilds throughout Aredenn.

Courtship Ideals

Women in this culture show off their knowledge of clockwork or alchemy skill and talents to men they're trying to impress. If a man fancies the woman's work, he will ask her on a date and see if there is more to her then just her brain. Though Brains are the most important to any Azurians. Not only to impress the opposite sex with what you can create but, what can it do in battle or travel. "What does it do?" is a common phrase to say. This question is loved by them. Because now they get to talk about what they have put together with their own hands. It like flirting to them.
