This knightly longsword has a dark blade inscribed with the finest runes. Its hilt exhudes a palpable sense of menace, as if daring any to try to wield it. The Sword of Twin Souls is an artefact weapon created by Exter, using the true name of Heironeous recovered from the cave of names. It imprisons the souls of both Heironeous, killed by his half-twin brother Hextor using the Sword, as well as the God of Tyranny's, betrayed and killed by Exter with the weapon he had made for him. It is a +5 sizing adamantine longsword. It can only be wielded by a creature that is neutral along the Good-Evil axis; any other is violently wracked by the warring souls imprisoned in the soul, being subjected to a destruction spell (Fort DC 47, CL 30th) for every round that the sword is brandished. For a creature in balance, the sword unlocks the prowess of the half-twin gods. The wielder can smite, good or evil, as a level 20 paladin or antipaladin respectively. A wielder in even more perfect balance unlocks greater power. A character that is neutral along all axis', to the exclusion of even slight leanings towards good or evil, law or chaos, can activate the sword as a free action to obtain a special smite ability. It is not targeted, but rather confers upon the wielder a bonus equal to their Charisma modifier (minimum +5) on their attack rolls, and a bonus equal to their character level (minimum +20) to damage rolls made with the sword; these bonuses are doubled against outsiders with an alignment subtype. In addition, the wielder receives a deflection bonus to their AC equal to their Charisma modifier (minimum +5). The effect lasts so long as the sword is wielded. Destruction: The Sword of Twin Souls can be destroyed by conferring with the imprisoned souls of Heironeous and Hextor and convincing them to set aside their differences. This must be no mere alliance of convenience: the two brothers must come to a true understanding and reconciliation. Should that happen, their souls would fuse, as they were always intended to be, and the resulting god would no longer be bound to the magic of the Sword, able to burst forth at will.
