The Veiled Covenant

The Veiled Covenant the VC for short, or also called der verschleirte Bund, is an organization of trades people that date back to several centuries. In ancient times specisism was way more common and often people would be discriminated just because they are from a different sentient species. While this practice has been way more common (altough it still exist), many traditions from these times still remain. One of these is the act of wearing masks to conceal ones identity and be judged by everybody by their deeds.
The VC is an organization that took this practice to almost religious levels among merchants. When joining the covenant members, especially at lower levels would conceal their whole face in masks and their whole bodies in large suits to conceal their identity whole while acting as agents of the covenant. This allowed the VC to have more independent trades all over the world and grow thus in ranks and power.
The VC is thus one of the biggest and most powerful merchant organizations and is still one of the few organizations that is first consulted for business manners. While being a fairly modern organization, tradition ahs stuck around and it is still common to see members with their characteristic masks and meditation practices.

Recent history

In the year 3294, a VC caravan organized by merchant Karen Maralquir Timbleweed, would be infiltrated by members of the Void. While personification of members of the veiled covenant has always occured, an act like this that could specifically be traced back to the Void was shocking to the public. The Void seemingly wanted to attack civilians, that traveled with the caravan, and were apparently desperate enough to break diplomatic parity with the VC. While it is unknown whether this act was done singularly or if bigger criminal organization has been behind this, it prompted discussion inside and outside the VC of taking more pronounced actions against the Void. However, some people warn that despite members of the Void being generally criminals despite that or especially because of that more drastic measures would lead to escalation due to desperation of Void members and other criminals.

There are 10 castes that make up the veiled covenant. The lowest caste are called "street merchants" and they are the most common members seen, that organize market places, caravans or small shops.
