A Kinda Brief History Part 4
{and yet} Rodrii and Florentia. A controversial pair. It might humor or alarm the reader to learn that there is no plot twist. No story of unreconciled love or jilted lovers. No star crossed pairing of a woman scorned or of a patient man brought to fury. No, the two just hated each other. The only thing that stopped them from killing one another was their love for their people and the reluctantly shared dream of a future for the world. Rodrii believed that Nulls were merely a stepping stone and through union of Arcanist and Null could usher in a race of humanity that could perform both. For psionics were the nullification of arcana and together could shape the very world. Aevallon regarded Nulls as a sign of underlying sickness and called then 'anathema' to magic. She was not incorrect, but her distaste reached profoundly harmful depths.
In truth, he was a eugenicist and she was a supremist and they would not reconcile their misaligned beliefs. It was their mutual friend, Balore' the Mundane, that held them together and simultaneously kept them apart. While Aevallon never publicly wed, rumors now founded implied her relationship with Balore' was more than a professional one. The existence of her children proof enough that she knew love and worldly pleasure, but the father was never declared in that time. Balore' would grow distant from both of his friends as he explored the Old World. He learned how to incorporate it's mechanisms into himself and how to install himself into the ancient machines. In this way, he could explore the world while gradually losing his humanity. He would someday become the Heiro

Balore' became the first of the martyrs needed to create a barrier. With the aid of the gods and the High Priestess of the Satyrii he devised the Grand Rubrik that would make this possible. But he would require two lives spent to make this possible. Rodrii and Florentia would be those lives. Before they departed they worked together to form the Council of the Masters, the Freelands and many MANY systems required to make the most of this sacrifice. They worked with Duecell and the Wildkin, Beastfolk and Fae to create a society that would stand the test of time. To ensure they did not fall to the same weakness The Ancestors did, the two founders employed some ritual in the Old World to place grand magics over the two countries. By changing the gender-ratio of each country, they could make them coexist and the eternal rivalry and endless vigil of both countries would stay strong.
This was done for an important reason. Rodrii would form the "gate" of the barrier which would be fueled by the combined might of the Nulls and Aevallon would become the "lock" that would be empowered by the presence of Arcanists. Each would need strong populations to fuel this Grand Rubrik and they had to make sure the people would rise, ascend above the petty things and seek enlightenment. With the groundwork laid, they set aside their differences and descended into the Old World, never to return.
It is thanks to their sacrifice that the one-thousand years of growing pain could happen. It is only thanks to them that mortal birthright has been preserved for these 5+ millennia. For records on the age of stability consult your local Archivist and Librarian.
