The job of a tavern owner is one that is often unappreciated by those who visit. They are not only those charged with supplying alcohol to weary traveller and courageous adventurers, but they are often the only form of socialising that those in small towns have. They are healers of the soul, speakers of the mind and providers of shelter to any and all that cross their path. Their job title does little to explain the tasks that they actually complete.

No qualifications are needed but a good knowledge of alcohol is key to selling well. It is helpful as well to have a good charismatic presence as that helps with gaining more customers for the tavern, and helps others to open up more to you.

Career Progression

Most tavern owners have progressed through working in the tavern previously and later becoming the owner. Some are gifted the tavern by their parents being owners, some have the money to be tavern owners straight outright. It often depends on location and pricing of the building.

Payment & Reimbursement

There is very little reward for being a tavern owner and a lot of them are mostly forgotten as background characters. In fact, a lot of tavern owners need to pay in to their jobs to be able to work due to many adventurers not been careful with their weapons, magic and overall confidence which causes damage to the structure of their buildings.

Other Benefits

The benefit of being a tavern owner is the knowledge of making someone feel better, of getting their money when they pay for their drinks, and for finding out secrets from drunken patrons that most others don't get. A tavern owner is perhaps the best source of information in most places.

The purpose of a tavern owner overall is to provide a place for the townsfolk and visitors to drink, eat, stay and be merry. However, most tavern owners find themselves as the source of a lot of support above and beyond this duty to most of their settlement. The bigger the settlement, the more demanding a tavern owner's job becomes.
