Skimmer

These quadrupedal creatures are native to the Sandsea of Duva but can also be found in desert or coastal environments. Their long, crab-like legs are stiff and armored in thick shells, making them rather slow and forcing them to rely on their height to stay out of reach of most predators and using the sharped tips of their legs to fend of others. However, when forced to retreat and if the terrain is favorable, they can fold in their legs and skim down sand dunes, using their armored legs as skis. Additionally, most subspecies have enough skinned webbing between their bodies and legs to glide on the air. Trained Skimmer riders can use their momentum from skimming down a sand dune to propel themselves into the air and glide to the top of the next dune. Due to this utility, they are rarely used as mounts beyond Duva. Similar feats can be accomplished on waves of water by coastal subspecies, which trade out the sturdiness of their legs for buoyancy,  but this requires significantly more skill and has fall less utility.
