Scout Strike Tradition / Ritual in Aroka: Fallen World | World Anvil

Scout Strike

The warriors of Ohedyn can't spend all their time in the wilderness honing their skills. Training and rest often take place with Hedgewall where disruption to the peace and tranquility of the nation are few and far between. As a result, the Wardens of Ohedyn created a tactical game with which they could develop the minds of their military leaders and scouts. There is no documentation of any official ruleset nor is any game of Scout Strike run the same way. The Wildwise, those that sufficient experience traversing and fighting in the wilderness to be considered experts, each have their own methods of styles of play, challenging their players or students in unique ways.   The overall premise is that the student or students are scouts operating beyond the Hedgewall. They must overcome the challenges of the wilderness, ranging from climbing steep cliffs, crossing rushing rivers, escaping dangerous flora and fauna, and defeating or evading Scourge raiding parties. The goal of the game is to locate Scourge villages or raid camps and report their findings back to the Wardens. Experience students are encouraged to find ways to inflict some damage to the Scourge, whether it be attracting dangerous animals to their villages, destroying their food or water supply, or killing one of their leaders.   This obviously poses some racial issues, especially after the formation of the Consortium where Scourge are not viewed simply as wild barbarians like they are in Ohedyn. To account for this, version of the game played throughout the Consortium clarify that the enemy is the wild Scourge of the Scourge Wilderness, not the "civilized" ones throughout the rest of the Consortium. Some versions go so far as to replace the main Scourge antagonist with Feral tribal members.   Despite its racist premise, Reclaimed Scourge are actually some of the best moderators of the game. Very rarely are they granted the title of Wildwise within Ohedyn society, but their intricate knowledge of the Scourge Wilderness and their people result in some of the most realistic and educational games.
