Dark Days Physical / Metaphysical Law in Aroka: Fallen World | World Anvil

Dark Days

Throughout the year, each of Aroka's Three Suns will pass before and disappear behind the Skygate, varying the amount of sunlight that reaches the planet. For the most part, enough light shines on the world to keep it warm and vibrant, but there are five days at the end of the year where not a single ray makes it to Aroka. During these six days, utter darkness reigns supreme. Some cultures barricade themselves in their dwellings to outlast the monsters that thrive in such conditions while others light as many candles, lanterns, torches, and fires as possible to ward them off as well as stave off the rapidly dropping temperatures. This is a time of anticipation and dread as monsters that typically regulate themselves to caves and caverns surface to feast one the flesh of surface-dwellers. Such creatures a rarely encountered the rest of the year, so the only accounts society has of them is the harrowing attacks that occur in dancing fire-light at best and suffocating darkness at worse. The whole world breathes a sigh of relief when the first ray of light graces its surface, signaling the start of the new year for most cultures.
