Lyfsberg

Lyfsberg is a small but well-appointed town in the Feywild, a five minute walk from a major Fey portal along a well-tended gravel path. Travelers looking to find the town from the Prime Material Plane will find signage pointing their way to the appropriate Fey Pool.

Demographics

Lyfsberg is notable for the curious fact that all 40 of its inhabitants are affected by some form of lycanthropy. Indeed the town was founded as a safe haven for anyone separated from their original communities because of their disease, whether that separation be self-imposed or otherwise. Visitors with and without lycanthropy are welcomed equally.

Government

Denizens of Lyfsberg follow the leadership of the mayor of the town, who some address as ‘Lord’ but others simply as ‘Mayor’. The current mayor is one Lord Wymar, a were-owlbear and powerful Fey warlock who favours reach weapons such as glaives for his pact weapon. No one in town has seen him in his human form, as he always appears in his hybrid one, never less than elegantly dressed including waistcoat and cravat.   It is widely known that the Fey have no jurisdiction over Lyfsberg despite it being run by a Fey warlock - Lord Wymar is quick to point out that he no longer has a Patron. No one in town knows precisely what he means by this, but only because they would consider it impolite to ask. Any traveler brave enough to enquire will learn that Lord Wymar bested his patron, breaking their hold on him while allowing him to retain his power.

Defences

As a small town, Lyfsberg has little need for a numerous guard presence. It boasts a complement of four, supplemented by a regular hunting party headed by a were-bear named Darcy.

Infrastructure

The town sits at a major crossroads in its part of the Feywild, and enjoys facilities far surpassing what one might expect from a town with only about 40 inhabitants.

Assets

Leading from the direction of the Fey portal toward the Mayor’s manor at the far end of town is a wide cobblestone thoroughfare, lined on one side with row houses inhabited by residents of the town who don’t own a shop and live above it.   Facing the row houses are six shops:
  • The Blacksmith’s - run by Jacobi, an white-haired older human werewolf
  • The Carpenter’s - run by the Cobblob family of halfling werewolves, including patriarch Alektos and two young daughters Kirke and Karme
  • The Grocer’s - run by Nordak, a mountain dwarf were-boar
  • The General Store - run by Sybil and son Ezekiel, both human were-pigs. Sibyl usually appears in her hybrid form while Ezekiel favours his human one.
  • The Tailor’s - run by Alphonse, a half-elf were-rat. Everyone calls him Alf.
  • The Herbalist’s - run by Valna, an elven were-tiger. Notably antisocial amongst the genial inhabitants of Lyfsberg.
Lyfsberg’s elegant mayor occupies an equally elegant house on the far end of town, a large manor flanked on each side by a wing of guest rooms on each side with a roof that just barely crests the surrounding trees. A family of were-rats are employed to keep the house.   Some of the land surrounding the town is used for communal farming, supporting the needs of the townsfolk.

Architecture

In contrast to most Fey architecture, which favours untreated wood often still covered in bark, the houses and shops of Lyfsberg are built of cobblestone and brightly painted wooden slats.
