Jacob Doyle

Co-captain of the Rainbow Chaser, Admiral of the Navy of Belmoren, Prophet of Anadyokiema and builder of the wonderous machine

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Jacob was born a very weak and frail child, with his parents concerned he may not live to adulthood. Even in his prime, Jacob was little more than a scrawny weakling with almost no physical prowess to speak of, being unable to carry and use an ax or run more than a few hundred yards without feeling completely exhausted. His strength, dexterity, and constitution are pitiful, and he has been easily subdued by even unconscious sailors and boars, being unable to out-wrestle most opponents even when he has the upper hand.

Body Features

Jacob has a slender, skinny frame devoid of muscle, though does not appear malnourished.

Facial Features

Jacob is nice-looking and smooth of face, mostly due to his elvish heritage and that he takes pride in grooming himself and taking care of his skin. His features are rather plain however, having no notable facial features other than slightly pointed ears.

Identifying Characteristics

Jacob does not look much different than most half-elves

Physical quirks

Jacob is rather plain of face, but is somewhat well-proportioned. He tries to maintain good posture when standing sitting and walking, as he tries to look after his long-term health.

Special abilities

None.

Apparel & Accessories

Jacob tries to always dress in clean garments so as not to look like a ruffian, but prefers the simple, modest cloak of a traveler rather than the extravagant garments of most mages. He does not like drawing unnecessary attention to himself, as he does not wish to be seen as a high-value target.

Specialized Equipment

In his later years Jacob acquired gray Robes of the Archmagi as well as several other magical trinkets; many of which he made himself in his old age to stave off loneliness. His most powerful and unique item was the Rod of Dreams, an iridescent rod made of dreams woven together with rainbows capable of granting small wishes to anyone who proved themselves selfless enough to earn its boon. he was able to create this item after a messenger of Anadyokiema appeared to him in a dream, giving him the inspiration to create a new magic item as well as a great machine that would be used many centuries later by Anadyokiemas faithful to fulfill a prophecy. He often sent his Rod of Dreams into the material plane to reward people for committing random acts of kindness, until he gave it away in 1945 to Gomar Marmite, a bard and member of the Minutemen; who served as Anadyokiemas hands in the world.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Jacob was born a bright child with an early affinity for the arcane. His parents, seeing he was clearly not destined for physical labor decided to send him to school to study wizardry. After receiving an education, Jacob met up with Dugrok Stonewall and Amber McConnel in the town of Fellbridge, where they were hired by the Justiciar to slay a wyvern that was terrorizing the countryside. Jacob traveled with his new friends all across eastern Norstir for many years battling the forces of Akaron, with little success as he had their forces majorly outnumbered even though Jacob and his friends employed superior strategy. After fighting the evil archmages' forces for centuries to no avail, Jacob decided to flee to the Feywild, tired of watching his friends and noble battle compatriots loose their lives only for their sacrifices to seem fruitless. He decided to live out his days as a hermit, peacefully living among the summer fey so he may continue his quest for knowledge away from the troubles of the material plane, though he always felt a sense of guilt and regret for being unable to bring about the change in the world he wanted, causing him to become bitter.

Education

Jacob was the first of his bloodline to study magic and become a wizard. He amassed a large student debt after graduating from wizard school with outstanding grades and went out of his way to be active in school. Jacob has always been curious and studious in nature, being fueled by a desire to gain knowledge simply for the sake of learning, no matter how abstract the subject. Jacob studied magic, math, science, art, philosophy, music, psychology, history, religion, and military theory.

Employment

At age 22 Jacob became a co-captain of the Rainbow Chaser, a two-masted Carrack along with his friends Dugrok Stonewall and Amber McConnel (and later Krath Stonewall) Jacob and friends acquired the ship from a guild of slavers, and offered their services to the duke of Belmoren, becoming the first navy of the city-state and becoming accomplished navy commanders. Jacob would later settle down in this town to sire a family.

Accomplishments & Achievements

Graduating from wizard school; Becoming a navy admiral; crafting exotic magical items and machines; helping Anadyokiemas chosen fulfill a prophecy by serving as a messenger for the gods' archon Leomund.

Failures & Embarrassments

Jacob has always been pitifully weak in terms of physical strength, and was once attacked and knocked unconscious by a boar due to his lack of sturdiness. He feels guilty about abandoning Armea during its struggle against Akaron and he feels like he failed to make any meaningful difference despite his best efforts.

Mental Trauma

Jacob has been involved in a war with Akaron for a very long time, in which his own forces have been severely outnumbered. He tries to form as personal a connection with each of his warriors as possible, which only makes the impact of their death harder to swallow as he watches his friends die only for Akaron to be merely inconvenienced by their victory.

Morality & Philosophy

Jacob has always been kind and pure of heart, but has been too weak and cowardly to want to get involved in most situations. Jacob sees no need to jump into a situation that does not concern him, as he knows that it is unwise and unproductive to get involved when he does not know the full story. Jacob is mostly a pacifist in nature and dislikes any form of conflict, especially when it is unnecessary. Jacob likes to keep the peace and avoid confrontation when possible, resorting to any means, even deception, to keep a situation from turning hostile. Jacob prefers to always take the diplomatic approach whenever possible, and sees no reason to employ unnecessary cruelty, viewing it as harsh and barbaric.

Taboos

Jacob does not shun the usage of any method to get the job done, knowing that he lives in a dangerous world where survival is the ultimate goal. He will go out of his way to find the most diplomatic, reasonable, and rational solution, but will reluctantly employ unsavory methods when there is no better solution.

Loki often takes the form of a weasel when sent to the material plane. His boss is the Duke of Belmoren, and he is in good standing with the people of Belmoren. He met with Leomund Attar in his late years, a lawful good paladin who was sent by Anadyokiema to relay a message to her chosen before rising to become an archon.

Family Ties

After falling in love with a sorceress and marrying her, Jacob infused his bloodline with magic so his heirs would inherit his magical power after he left Armea. He settled down with the love of his life for a time in the city of Belmoren, becoming a prominent family of wizards and sorcerers. His most notable heirs are his many-times great grandchildren: Jason Doyle, Jackson Doyle, and Juliet Doyle.

Religious Views

Though Jacob has never been overly religious, he has always been in good standing with any gods devoted to magic, progress, and good moral values. He was chosen by Anadyokiema who appeared to him in a dream as a rainbow, telling him she needed someone to serve first as an inventor, and then as a messenger for when the time came for her faithful champions, The Minutemen, to fulfill a prophecy involving fixing the time-stream. He served this role faithfully, as Anadyokiema had granted him great inspiration, giving him the spark he needed to craft some of his most valued magical creations.

Hobbies & Pets

Outside of studying and reading Jacob has no notable hobbies, though he does have a pet mechanical spider who serves a role in keeping him company, as well as Loki and other friendly Fey spirits who provide entertainment and a sense of companionship to him in his old age.

Speech

Jacob speaks in a proper manner with good diction and strong emphasis on what he says. After all, the best way to convince someone of your point is to speak loudly and with confidence.

Wealth & Financial state

Born in a forested elven settlement to a woodcutter and an alchemist, Jacob had a decent start in life, always having enough to survive. His family was far from wealthy, and he had to earn his own fortune through risk and hard work. After he retired from a life of adventuring he had amassed quite a fortune after nearly two millennia, and decided to put most of it towards the creation and acquisition of magical items, tomes, artifacts, knowledge, and secrets. Jacob has always been wise with his finances, and dislikes frivolous or wasteful spending, being a man of simple desires.

Character Prototype
Originally based off a villain for a novel I was writing, he was supposed to be a chaotic evil trickster, but that energy didn't fit well with the party or setting, so I went with more of a neutral philosopher aesthetic.
