Scope
The motivation behind building Arkanis
This world is being built for use in a fantasy novel, most likely young adult to adult fiction. Some alternative mediums could include graphic novel, video game, or musical animated series.
The goal of the project
Hoping to keep track of the complexities of the fantasy world, as well as house all of the necessary world information in one place that is Internet accessible.
Arkanis's Unique Selling point
The saving grace of this world is not a triumph of light but an acceptance and embrace of darkness.
Theme
Genre
Fantasy with medieval and magical elements.
Reader Experience
I want the world to feel magical, yet grounded in the reality of politics, culture, and human error. Yes, royals have magical power and the gods are real, but not everyone believes in the gods and not everyone thinks magic is good.
I want the audience to empathize with the protagonists and be inspired to think about magic differently.
Reader Tone
Harry Potter, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Disenchantment, Grishaverse series.
Magic exists, but the world is not an easy place to live in. People make mistakes, and adult themes are recognized and explored (such as love, sex, substance abuse, language, violence, and generational trauma).
