Cellidwen

A principality in Aemir. The lands are along the central western coast and the seat of the principality is on a large island just off the coast. Several smaller islands also dot the region.

History

Cellidwen was once a loosely affiliated band of tribes that shared a common culture but were each autonomous. Squabbling, horse-stealing, and the like were not uncommon. However, when a threat to their autonomy came from outside, the tribes would readily band together to defend their lands and ways. Eventually they would return to their usual habit of squabbling amongst themselves.   During a period when the tribes had recently joined forces under the leadership of one of the strongest and most capable of their assorted chieftains to repel an attempted land-grab by a neighboring small nation, a new threat was detected within their own households. This threat was more difficult to fight, spreading dissent and chaos that threatened to shatter their alliances once and for all.   An appeal was made to the country of Aemir, an ally though one seldom called upon, to assist them in making peace within their own ranks. It was thought that outsiders would better be able to see what was going on than those too deeply involved in the intrigue within the ranks of power. In the end, the Aemiran delegation was able to root out the agents provocateur and help broker a more lasting and stable peace among the various tribes by setting up a prince to rule impartially (ideally) over all the tribes, thus creating the principality of Cellidwen as a part of the growing nation of Aemir.
