Prosecutor

A prosecutor is most often a high-ranking lawkeeper or champion of a local governing body. They are tasked with representing the state in trials of combat.

The role has strong religious connotations and has since shifted from a violent to an intellectual pursuit. Instead of having a trial by combat, the prosecutor is tasked with presenting the (potential) criminal's actions to the lawkeeper, who will then bestow their verdict.

In cases where the prosecutor is also the lawkeeper presiding over the case, they are instead known as an adjudicator. While in religious contexts they are known as inquisitors.
