Murder in the night?

A famous Triton archaeologist   A famous Triton archaeologist named Wilmet Wizcrack, who was staying in the same inn as the PCs, died last night. Everyone is buzzing with rumors by breakfast time. Wizcrack’s body shows no signs of physical attack, but his skin is drawn tight to his bones and his muscles are atrophied. Investigating his room reveals no sign of any assailant, but it does turn up many relics, including a very shiny +1 longsword with the inscription “Trist Drassig” on the blade. One day after his death, Wizcrack turns into a shadow. One week after carrying the blade, its wielder is attacked by 1d4 shadows every midnight.

Plot points/Scenes

The archaeologist Wilmet had been visiting a recently unearthed tomb of a 1st era warlord. He had just returned from an expedition and was planning on settling in for the night before taking the unearthed blade to the Order of the Lotus. The wielder of the blade is visited by a curse in the form of shadows of all those who died by its hand. The sword can be cleansed by A lesser restoration and DC14 religion check or greater restoration. Cleansing the blade removes the shadows and makes it safe.
