Pianna the First
Prophet Pianna Rinn Orwain (a.k.a. The First)
Pianna the First was once a strong, fast and vibrant young woman. She was the primary pupil of Kirtar the Great, who was a warrior-monk in the style of the great houses of Greyvale and Mercadia. As a result, her youth and early adulthood was one of vigourous training and great physical capacity. This all changed about five years into her tenure as "First Among Equals" and only a few months after finally accepting the title of Prophet of the One Faith. Pianna was attacked by unknown assassins during one of her solitary forays into the Steppelands, and while she survived, she was stricken by The Grey Waste. The disease did its grim work, and physically, Pianna was a mere shade of her former self by the time she was discovered by a patrol of nomadic light cavalry. Wracked with the disease, she was taken to back to Qorum where she was held in solitary hospice for several days before a dwarven adventurer used the knowledge she acquired in the fallen capital of the gnomes to save Pianna from certain death.
Pianna took several months to recover from the cure to the Grey Waste. Over that time, her Outer Circle took control of the governance of Qorum and the surrounding area. The night before she held her first appearance with the combined Circles, the same dwarven adventurer returned with a final gift -- her ivory mask. Since that time, Pianna has been very active in the governance of her city and the surrounding area. Pianna has been at the center of smoothing out relations and coordinating the nomadic tribes of the Steppelands into a more cohesive force for stability and commerce. Pianna has expanded and improved her and Qorum's relationship with the Raven King of Thessidia, the Lords of the Free Realms, the Princes of Mercadia, the Speaker of the Deliberative in Westervale, and the Queen of Lyria.
Physical Description
General Physical Condition
Pianna the First is a tall woman, wearing silken trousers and a silken long-sleeve shirt. Her forearms and hands, and her calves and feet are wrapped in thick strips of linen. She wears a dark, hooded vest with a light grey cape. On her hips, she wears a thick, black dwarven-style belt with silver accents and inset rubies. On her face, she wears a pure ivory mask with an idealized, if neutral, woman's face that is rimmed in gold. It appears to be unattached but stays absolutely secure, it fits just below her chin to just before her ears and slightly above her hairline. Her voice is only slightly muffied, and while she appears to be tired and winded, Pianna retains a physical grace and presence.
Body Features
Pianna is tall for a human woman at 5'10" and she has an atheltic build. She has a long neck and long limbs, which she attempts to mitigate with her clothing style. Her body is mostly covered, but you can see the dark scarring on the parts of her neck, hands and fingers that signal that she's a rare survivor of the Grey Waste.
Facial Features
Pianna was said to be an attactive woman with Icatian and Mercadian features, though since her attempted assassination, she wears an ivory mask that has a generic, idealized woman's face with a neutral expression.
Apparel & Accessories
While she retains her grace and physical presence, her face and body were terribly scarred and her stamina was severely reduced. As a result, she has taken to wearing an ivory and gold mask with an idealized, if neutral, human female visage. She has continued wearing her regular clothing: nomadic-style silken trousers with linen wraps from her knees to her ankles, a silken long-sleeve shirt with wrapped linens from her hands to her elbows, with a dark grey, hooded long-tailed vest embroidered with golden threads. What can be seen of her hands and fingers are pale and stricken with dark thunderbolt-like scarring, she covers her fingernails with black polish.
In her hands, she carries a darkwood staff capped on each end with dark iron -- her chosen weapon and impromptu support. She wears a cloudy-grey cape and charcoal-coloured slippers embroidered with shiny-black threads. Around her neck, she wears a necklace of black pearls. She wears a black belt in the dwarven style with silver accents and ruby gem insets; on it, is attached a light handaxe and a finely curved dagger. Her mask is pure ivory edged with gold, it covers her face all the way to her ears, up past her hairline to her crown and just under her chin. It appears perfectly fitted and not fixed to her in any external way -- no straps, strings, braces or ribbons. Most importanly, there are no eyeholes in the ivory of the mask, but it is apparent that Pianna is able to see light and colour, and discern writing on a page.
Mental characteristics
Gender Identity
Pianna identifies as a woman, but did not embrace the common path of a minor noblewoman on the eastern borderlands of Westervale and the Steppelands. After the death of her family during an errant Landfall event, she committed herself to the path of the warrior-monk under Kirtar the Great. Pianna wasn't particularly known for cultivating romantic or sexual relationships, though she does retain a soft spot for babies and small children. Generally now, she takes on an androgynous persona, eschewing the pleasantries expected by men toward women and not extending those same pleasantries toward men nor women.
Education
From birth to adolescense, Pianna was trained as a minor noblewoman in the Icatian style. Nominally a part of the Republic of Westervale, her parentage were age-old Baronets that kept watch over a small valley that served as a secondary entrance from the lands of Westervale and the vast, rolling Steppelands. During her early teen years, she was sent to the Port of Orliac to be tutored by a host family by the name of Lorien. Upon the completion of her tutelage, Pianna returned home to find that her family and home had been destroyed by an errant Landfall event that occurred on the Westervale side of the border. She discovered a group of nomads fighting off the horrific Children of Vadrik, and lacking a sense of direction or conneciton, she joins them on their hunt into the Steppelands. Not long afterwards, Pianna is taken in by the man who would become Kirtar the Great. A warrior-monk and a master of several forms of unarmed combat, Kirtar trains Pianna's body and mind and hones her spirit to a point that her hands could strike down even the immaterial servants of Seedrik.
Once named the Prophet, Pianna spent much time in the Archives in the Prophet's Dome educating herself on history, lore and other stories that would inform her approach to rulership and leading the One Faith.
Social
Reign
Pianna has been the Prophet of the One Faith for over twenty years, and it's been approximately fifteen years after the attempt on her life.
Religious Views
Pianna is a moderating and peace-centered pragmatic voice in the Inner Circle, and a pragmatic stability-creating leader in worldly affairs. It is viewed that she treats these two postures as at-odds with one-another and a battle between her heart and her mind.
Social Aptitude
Pianna has a strong presence, and while she usually has a positive impact on the people she meets, there is a strong minority contingent of people who are strongly put-off by her due to the Grey Waste and the slightly inhuman essence she gives off. This has led to her reputation being well-respected and even feared by orcish warlords and warriors in her presence; she is reviled by most female high elves that she meets for whatever reason. Of all peoples, the dwarves and gnomes are most at-ease with her presence -- both peoples calling her the epitome of a dwarven noblewoman or gnomish wisewoman trapped in the body of a human.
Mannerisms
Pianna has learned to over-emote from a physical perspective, to ensure that people are aware of her non-verbal communications now that she lacks the ability to convey facial expressions. She gestures with her hands and arms, uses her posture to convey attentiveness, and tilts her head in various ways to convey messages that need not have words.
Her classic greeting is a bow of the head and a slight bow at the hip with her right hand on her heart and her left hand resting on the leather of her dwarven belt.
Diplomats have noted that she absent-mindedly runs her right index finger over her right ear while in thought or when she's bored. It's believed that this is one of the few places that has not been affected by the grey waste other than the palms of her hand and the soles of her feet.
Hobbies & Pets
Pianna has several cats. They are the only creatuers permitted unrestricted access to her personal sanctum within the Prophet's Dome.
Speech
Pianna has two voices. The first is her leadership voice, a sonorous but airy speech reminiscent of how high elven women are portrayed in novels and plays. The second is her more natural voice, higher pitched and more stoccato tinged with fatigue.
Wealth & Financial state
Personally, Pianna is still wealthy by Free Realms and Lakelands standards. Her wealth is managed by her Outer Circle Member responsible for Alms and Lessons, and backs many activities that keep the children of Qorum, the Steppelands and the Eastern Balefallow Valley educated and cared-for.
