Corrosive Blade

The ability to summon a corrosive blade was first observed in infernal creatures with a nature leaning toward elemental earth. They would call forth these blades to attack and flee in quick bursts, leaving their foes to expire from wounds that would fester with acid. Mortals derived the technique and it finds favor in the hands of assassins and cultists generally. A few groups of more advanced gargoyles and earth elemental kin also favor the spell. When used a blade of acid forms to be used as a melee weapon or thrown. An attack from the weapon deals lingering acid damage over time with multiple strikes compounding the damage being sustained.

Effect

As a Bonus Action, the caster summons a sword of pure acid. The magic sword lasts until the spell ends. The caster is proficient with this weapon. The weapon has the finesse and light properties. When used to attack a creature, on a hit, the target takes 2D6 Acid damage and will take an additional 1D6 Acid damage at the start of its turn. This effect is cumulative for the duration of the spell. If the target is affected by a healing spell, the cumulative damage ends. If this spell is cast at a higher level, increase the initial damage by 1D6 for every spell slot above 3 and the cumulative damage by 1D6 for every 2 spell slots above 3.
