8,000 years ago, we blinked into existence. An as of yet undetermined amount of adult humanoids "woke up" simultaneously, with no memory of what came before. They had language, and an understanding of the world, much as any fully functioning adult would, but without the context, and without the memories. With an understanding of the most basic natural laws, these people created settlements, formed families, and eventually built great empires, but no without some bumps in the road. Basic ideologies clashed, alliances were formed, and then broken, and much blood was shed. And that was all before magic was discovered. The discovery of magic, and the subsequent corruption that then seeped into the world, greatly changed the landscape, both politically, and geographically. New nations rose seemingly overnight, while established governments were turned to dust just as quickly. This shift in the power structure was bad enough if it didn't also bring about the emergence of magical beings with little regard for humanoid life. This age began around 1,000 years ago, and is commonly known as "The Bleeding." With the known world on the brink of extinction, it was the work of small groups of great hero's. Great warriors known for feats of immense strength, priests blessed with the power of the god's, and powerful mages who could mold reality to there will, these great hero's turned the tide of darkness, and brought about this new age, one that we have yet to name. This is where our story picks up, one century into the future, where we are still picking up the pieces of this broken world. The shadows are still dark, and there is much work to be done still....
