Calugar Thalderad
King, Holy Knight Calugar Amaros Thalderad
Calugar Thalderad was a mighty aasimar paladin and the founder and first king of the Deodene Empire. After the Great Desolation, he led his armies, who's homes had been destroyed, to the Ulsterlands. The Ulsterlands had not yet been settled and only recently discovered, so Calugar and his men sailed northeast from Beogar and founded the Deodene Empire with Calugar as their king. From that point on, the Deodenian kings were of holy blood, either aasimar themselves or descendants of one. While modern kings claim to be of the same line as Calugar, they are almost certainly not, as dynastic politics and subterfuge were just as regular in the empire as in any other kingdom.

Personal history
Calugar Thalderad was born to Baldwin and Margot Thalderad, who at the time were landowning nobles in Dalmouth. He was taken as a squire by a paladin whose name has been lost to time, and quickly showed skill in the field. He dedicated himself to Heironeous and soon became one of Herioneous's mightiest paladins in Beogar. Before long, Calugar began studying the art of war, with all of its delicate strategy, yet another area in which he was naturally gifted. Due to this skill, he became a general and led one of the many armies that fought in the Great Desolation. Tragically, his home nation of Asten was decimated during the countless battles, leaving him and his army homeless, without even a nation to return to. As such, Calugar brought his men (along with what members of their families had survived) on a voyage to the relatively newly discovered continent now known as the Ulsterlands. There, him and his men founded what would quickly become the Deodene Empire, with Calugar as its first king. After living a life far longer than many of his fellow paladins and soldiers, he died of old age at 86 years old.
