Solan Morroth

A pivotal figure in the Tragedy of High Helessa

Sir Solan Rathas

Sir Solan Morroth was a knight who fought Rathi rebels during the Stock Wars and attended the Great Parley, which put an end to that great conflict. More notably, Sir Solan was a player in the great Tragedy of High Helessa.   Sir Solan befriended Prince Dorren Beth of Revellia during the Great Parley, and wished to visit the capital city of Revelback for some time. He spent nearly two years there, but was summoned home to Ethelbrand after his elder brother died, making him heir to Clan Morroth.   Yet during his time at Revelback, Sir Solan had come to admire Lady Helessa Oishlog, wife to the Mox Master of the King. Lady Helessa's husband, Lord Golbran, was a hideous and cruel-hearted man, and jealous to a fault. Lady Helessa guarded her heart well, but in time she grew to love Sir Solan, and he found he returned her affections.   A great feast was thrown his final night in Revelback, from which he retired early. Lady Helessa would excuse herself soon after, summoning Sir Solan to her chambers. There, she opened her heart and pleaded for him not to leave. Sir Solan pledged his love to her, yet his duty to his family came before all else. As they were saying goodbye, Lord Golbran burst into the room. Without so much as a word, he pulled his knife and plunged it into Lady Helessa's heart. The guardsmen would find Sir Solan weeping over High Helessa's body as Golbran stared on.   Lord Golbran accused Sir Solan of murdering his wife, and challenged him to hollymock. Sir Solan offered to fight without armor, for Oishlog was smaller and weaker and deformed besides, but the proud Lord Golbran would not hear it. Sir Solan fought nobly, breaking all three of Lord Golbran's shields without suffering a loss, yet all the time it was clear that Lord Golbran had been hoping to strike and slay Sir Solan in the fight.   Lord Golbran was found guilty for murdering his wife. Sir Solan paid a last visit to Lady Helessa, kissing her on the cheek, before departing home for Ethelbrand that night.
