Smiling Men Myth in Ardre | World Anvil

Smiling Men

A fairly common myth amongst the Southern Cantons of Milos, the Smiling Men are small creatures, elves or gnomes of a sort, with large mouths, filled with sharp teeth. They are the children of Sena Dona, the Old Woman Under the Hill, and like her they have a taste for human flesh. They are said to wander near the outskirts of villages near the Longest Night in search of stragglers, naughty children, or anyone else out where they shouldn't be. They sing merry songs, call out for revelers to join them, and are even said to emit a warmth that can be felt before they are seen. By no circumstances, however, should anyone heed their calls. The stories of their vicious treatment of mortals are varied, their creativity oft outdone only by the vivid violence.
