Shadow Bird

A specific breed of the Vainan Rainbow Bird. Shadow Birds are identical to other Rainbow Birds in most respects, but the majority of their plumage is black. They have black beaks and claws, their only coloring being dark blue bellies on females and blood red on males. The males are used exclusively for breeding, the females to deliver secret messages at night. Shadow Birds are the result of breeding, and thus belong only to powerful and influential families. Only the most intelligent are used, being trained to recognize specific people and speak their messages only to such people. Credible rumors claim female Shadow Birds can memorize up to twenty different locations. Given the clandestine nature of their use, most of what is assumed of them must be counted conjecture, however.
