Gorsecc the Howler Character in Ardre | World Anvil

Gorsecc the Howler

A Deinain of the Middle Pantheon. Also called the Screamer, Gorsecc was a corpse-like woman who wailed in fury, birthing the winds and thunderstorms. It was said the lightning bolts were either her children or the tears of ancient Monsters (or Hadrash) she had torn asunder and thrown into the sky. In this way, Gorsecc may represent the wild, untamed fire of nature, whilst Faereann represents the managed, controlled fire of civilization.   The Gorseccai were a small group, possibly a cult, that existed in ancientry, who worshipped Gorsecc as the avatar of wild, deranged passion. They held maniacal orgies called Gorseccar, which involved drunkenness, all manner of sexual acts, and even cannibalism and blood sacrifice. The Gorseccai supposedly roved across Southern Milos, demanding tribute from small villages like roving bandit armies, abducting children, and coercing villagers to join them.   Gorsecc is a very two-sided figure in old Deinain myth. In some tales, she is a cold, grim corpse that elicits chills, while in others she is a wild spirit of blood violence. This seems to be represented in the Peinti tradition, wherein the color of green represents wisdom, while also being associated with wild monsters like Crulos the Horned God and Gorsecc herself.
