Personal history

Arrlian Tomekeeper was born as Arrlian Cammas of House Cammas in the southern hills of Lithos. As a boy, he resided on his parent's farm in the countryside; he has always enjoyed reading and spent his youth learning much about the history of conflict between the nations of Lithos and Aristolia. His father was an unkind man and his mother was too deep in her cups to care much about the abuses her husband inflicted upon the boy. Arrlain grew up meek and lacking in confidence suffering the blows of the hardened man, who carried the dwindling legacy of the Cammas family on his shoulders. At the early age of twelve, the young boy left home in the dead of night to travel north to Hammas and join the Colleges of Magic.

Once having arrived and joined the Silentshore Sages, the young man was dissatisified with the conservative approach the teachers had to passing on knowledge. He had top scores in all his classes, yet his tutors and teachers cautioned him to slow down, advice that the teenager willfully ignored. He was particularly upset regarding the many biases that his books held against the nation of Aristolia, which painted the empire in a negative light. He was determined to uncover the whole truth of the ages of war and rivalry between the two kingdoms.   Arrlian's teachers were eager to get him to pursue the path of an Archmage, but he eventually rejected the Erudism faith, and traveled east to the lands of Aristolia as an envoy of the Mage's Guild.

As Arrlian's progress through the Mage's Guild began to grow, he was offered various opportunities within the guild's leadership, soon enough he was engrossed in recordkeeping, documentation, and curating several Mage's Guild halls. In his capacity as curator, he was given the decision making power over displays and exhibits, a power that he soon began to love.   During this time, his interest in Aristolian history caught the eye of several influential members of the Church of Helios and the Merchant's Guild, who approached him with an offer to be the head librarian of Scholarguard, educating Aristolian youths on their history as well as providing insight into his own Lithosian history. The lucrative opportunity was hard to turn down, and he quickly found himself in a position of great authorirty within the city; of course this power came with an expectation of loyalty to the church.   Following a conflict in the sacred vales of Arrbora, the local populace of Scholarguard quickly turned against the Lithosians in their midst. While keeping his family name a secret from the general public, Arrlian continued his work as a recordkeeper, penning down everything that the Church of Helios told him was accurate and correct, even when it wasn't.

Accomplishments & Achievements

Fearing for his life, he secretly began making connections with several specific members of Merchant's Guild, good friends who aided him in his time of need. With the help of these merchants, he greatly improved the state of the surrounding regions by bringing financial prosperity to the various Mage's Guild Halls and libraries across Ardras. Many of these accomplishments have been recorded by the Church of Helios, who shower him with praise and appreciation and keep a close eye on his activities. Some of these accomplishments include:
  • Establishing the Royal Library of Redrook
  • Fundraising various public works throughout Aristolia
  • Improving the overall literacy of the region
  • Spreading the good word of Helios to the Lithosian populated regions of Aristolia
  • Recording history properly and in accordance with true events
  • Being raised into the position of Trade Prince of Redrook, nominated by several enthusiastic members of the Church of Helios
  • Mental Trauma

    Show spoiler
In his older age, Arrlian has slowly uncovered the truth that he so desperately wanted to learn long ago in his youth. His access to and curation of Aristolia's many libraries has given his knowledge not known by the common man. In his private time, through various smuggling connections, he has collected a private collection of books from throughout Ardras which pieces together the origins of Lithos and Aristolia's longtime rivalry.   Arrlian has become overwhelmed by the corrupt knowledge of history, becoming increasingly anxious as the Church of Helios maintains their connections with him, propping him up at every opportunity and putting him out in the public eye as their puppet while keeping a close eye on his activities. The lies he has told the public on the church's behalf has engrossed him in a web of deceipt that he struggles to find a way out of.

    Intellectual Characteristics

Arrlian is an open-minded man with a great love for culture and literature; he enjoys light travel and discussions about the world and the people who inhabit it. He is also remarkably well-read and has an encyclopedic knowledge of much of Ardras's history. He is also an exceptionally skilled liar, keeping the keen eyes of the clergy off his trail through misdirection and doublespeak.

    Morality & Philosophy

Those who don't know history are doomed to repeat it, but those that do are forced to sit and watch. Arrlian feels powerless in the face of the magnitude of hidden history that has clouded the minds of both Lithosian and Aristolian people and wants only peace. If he must lie to protect the lives of many, he will do just that.

    Personality Characteristics

Arrlian wants to keep the peace, even if he must lie to do so.

    Savvies & Ineptitudes

Arrlian is very well read and has an indexed knowledge of world history. He reads philosophy in his leisure time while smoking from his favorite pipe. His favorite thing in the world is useless trivia, which he can provide anybody with at any time of day.

    Likes & Dislikes

Arrlian has a sweet tooth for baked pastries and treats, and enjoys tarts, croissants, and freshly baked bread. His breakfasts usually consist of scones, tea, and cream.

    Virtues & Personality perks

Arrlian comes off as a very humble and appreciative man. He has come far from his rough childhood and is grateful for everything he has accomplished, even if his parent's were never there for it. He is thankful for his position as Trade Prince, and does his best to keep everyone happy.

His clothes are well-kept, ironed, and cleaned every day. He smells slightly of an inoffensive, austere cologne.

    Contacts & Relations

This scholar is well liked by many members of Aristolian society for his humble nature and good-will towards others, but mostly because he comes off as harmless. The Merchant's Guild has always been happy to fund his curations of the Mage's Guild halls, provided that they are adorned within the expectations of the Church of Helios.

    Religious Views

Though he was raised in the Lithosian Erudism faith, he has since converted to the Church of Helios and adheres to the Capital Text, the good book of the church which teaches a proper work ethic and a master-servant relationship between those with money and those without it.

    Social Aptitude

Arrlian has often been described as a "somewhat jittery, anxious man" with a people-pleasing smile and servile tendencies. He is always happy to help someone in need, given that he has the resources to do so. Some people would seek to take advantage of his kindness, but he is too good a person to turn them down.

    Wealth & Financial state

Arrlian's wealth has been carefully saved up over his lifetime, though his business dealings are not very lucrative. His secret is that he has very little wants and finds very little reason to spend money when it isn't necessary. To Arrlian, a Copper Piece saved is a copper piece earned.
