Tuerian

Legend has it that when magic was given to Agia Moran it did more than making the land lush and green it changed everything. The legend states that there were some animals who were changed all of them in different ways, but they became something new and as such the Tuerians arose. Part human part animal some more animal, some more human. After the calamity that swept through central Ardhaina, they were forced out of their home in Agia Moran and have been wanderers ever since. Many found solace in the refuge offered by Losanthanos, the closest many have ever been to the home of their ancestors the home of their birth. Others found their way to the distant lands of Dasdra and Wesjwadvan, others yet continue to migrate unwanted and lost in lands that are not their own. The knowledge lingers in all of them however, that returning home would surely mean their death.

Basic Information

Anatomy

It varies but most these days are largely human in appearance with minor animal traits such as antlers, ears, horns, tails, and other animal features. Others will have primarily animal features with minor human features. Think a bear who can speak, a badger with human eyes, a giraffe with a mane of human hair, or even minotaurs that kind of thing. Others yet will be half human half animal, mermaids, centaurs, sphinxes, the Egyptian gods type thing. Others yet were odd mixes of animal and human. A human whose arm is the leg of a tiger with a tail and sharp teeth. Just about any combination of human and animal exists in the form of a Tuerian.

Biological Traits

Depends on the animal portion

Genetics and Reproduction

Varies by subspecies as it depends on if they're mostly human or mostly animal. Those who are mostly human will have human reproduction methods but those who are mostly animal will have the reproduction methods of those animals. In short, it varies by how much animal and how much human one of them is.

Growth Rate & Stages

Varies by subspecies depends on the percentage of animal DNA and human DNA.

Ecology and Habitats

The mostly human ones can live almost anywhere, the mostly animal and half animal ones can live only in their intended habitat (other than those part bird who can live just about anywhere as well) They thrive in magic rich environments as they were born of magic, but they don't need magic in the land to survive.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Depends on animal and percentage of that animal.

Biological Cycle

Depends on the animal and the percentage of animal they are.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Depends on where they are and where they're from. The Animus are widely regarded by the species as the highest as they originate from the original Tuerians and know the most about the origin of the species and their homeland. The nomadic Moehambi are seen as second to the Animus in power and worth because they are seen as strong and true to their roots as they have yet to reestablish themselves in one place and hold onto the belief that one day they'll return to their homelands. Those of Losanthanos come next in the power structure, followed then by those from Wesjwadvan who are seen as the least by their species because they chose to go so far away from their ancestral home and many of them believe it unlikely nigh impossible to return to their ancestral home.   Within each of these factions are different power structures. The nomadic Moehambi tend to have tribal structures in which they'll have a chief who rules over their tribe and a religious leader known as the Moehambique who is second only to the chief and the rest of the tribe stands equal but the general belief is that they are all equal it is only that the chief and Moehambique have the decision making power in the tribe and are responsible for keeping everything organized but otherwise all are equal and must work with each other.   The animus are spread out among the nomads and those in Losanthanos and Wesjwadvan and are generally seen as semi-sacred and at the very least highly respected but they don't have their own power structure.   Those in Losanthanos and Wesjwadvan adhere to the power structures of where they're living but within their own community and interaction, they do recognize others as having more power or less power. Within these communities, it is bloodlines that control social standing the "purer" or more Animus your bloodline the more respect you receive. In the Losanthanos community, the most powerful lead the community as the circle of elders. In Wesjwadvan there are less obvious power hierarchies and it's generally just seen in individual interactions between community members as one will defer to another based on bloodline.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

The Moehambi are used as merchants and tradesman when they are accepted by the nations they are in. The others are used primarily based on the animal connection they have and are given jobs or discriminated against based on their animal connections.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Originally from Agia Moran, there are now none living there, primarily they now live in high populations in Losanthanos and Wesjwadvan (55% in Losanthanos, 40% in Wesjwadvan) The rest are nomadic and travel throughout the other nations (excluding Amaryllis since they'll be killed)

Average Intelligence

Depends on the animal but the majority are pretty intelligent

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Varies between each subspecies, but most will possess the sensory capabilities of their animals so generally enhance senses. Some get enhanced physical abilities based on the animal they're mixed with. All of them once possessed magic, but now only those untouched by the storm possess it. Some of those with magic can shift forms from full animal to full human and pull on the connection to change parts of themselves to be more like the animal they're part of but only those who go through intense training and work and effort can achieve this.

Civilization and Culture

Major Language Groups and Dialects

Losanthian, Wesdjwadvanian, Amaryllian, and the common tongue

History

One of the newer species in Ardhaina the species appeared in Agia Moran, due to the legends of the land itself being filled with magic many assume that it is through this land magic that animals came to have human characteristics others hypothesized that it was the other way around and that humans gained animal traits through the magic others yet said it was a mixture of the two. They were well received in Agia Moran for quite some time but a few years after The Calamity struck they were driven out of their homeland for no apparent reason other than the human population just appeared to want them gone.   From there they spread out populations of them appearing in all of the other nations of Ardhaina. Eventually, most of them ended up in Losanthanos and Wesjwadvan as these were the only two nations that truly welcomed and accepted them the others rejected them and saw them as invaders and nuisances. However, there were a few who remained as nomads still searching for a place to call home and are biding the time until they can return to their homelands. From these separations, three schools of thought essentially arose, those who believed without a shadow of a doubt that they'd be going home and became more devoted to their religion and ancestors and strengthened the spiritual bond between them and their homeland, those who believed there was a possibility but a slim one and kept their homeland in their minds and held to the spiritual connection and their religion while also slightly conforming to their new home, and those who believed they would not be going home at all and instead gave up on their homeland and large amounts of their religion in favor of accepting their new home and new place in life. All three now hold very different beliefs and ideas because of these shifts.   Magic also shifted in these three groups,

those living in Losanthos 80% of them lost their magic and their ability to do magic due to the effects of the storm which hit the North East region of Losanthanos which is where most of them were living.
The magic possessed by those living in Wesjwadvan changed as they came to adopt ways of life far more similar to those of the people of Wesjwadvan and thus came to adopt their magic system and the rules and constraints thereof especially as they started interspecies relationships with the citizens and had Wesjwadvanian kids. The biggest change came in the form of the magical shifts within the nomadic faction Moehambi as they discovered a way to "shift" or change from full human form to full animal form as well as change specific parts of their bodies between animal and human shapes. This change derived from their need to better protect themselves and their deeper connection to their roots. However, only some were able to accomplish this feat as it requires great skill and a lot of hard work. Overall, only 2-3% of the Tuerian population can "shift".
