Hilumen

Hilumen is technically under the rule of the Aswarian Empire. But only to the extent that they ship any traitors to the realm there and leave them a few supplies, a rough map to the city of Buzaddush  and an order never to return.   Despite having a few settlements wherever survivors could scrape by and actually make some kind of life, there is little in the way of official land titles, regulations or laws. Some have banded together creating tribes of sorts, while others prefer to remain alone and try their luck.

Geography

An arid, barren plain with harsh coasts to the South, desert to the North, the The Anvil Mountains to the West and an unknown frontier to the East past the city of Buzaddush .

Localized Phenomena

Hilumen is known for its sweeping, dry, lightning storms. Many of the once mighty trees have been struck and burned leaving stumps of ash. Interestingly, this can result in the stumps filtering water up from the ground and those who live there will often tap and gather water as it seems to be filtered and cleansed through the ash.

Climate

Dry, warm and dusty. Lightning storms can pop up all year around but are more common throughout the Time of Plenty.

Fauna & Flora

There are few studies about the Flora and Fauna of Hilumen. Some intrepid adventurers have tried to document the wildlife but as it is hard to leave, little is known outside of the region.

Natural Resources

There are natural fissures in the ground through which steam pours. This is often used in cooking or during fiber processing.

History

It's thought that this land was once a mountainous, thriving area. But through natural, or perhaps unnatural, occurrences it has become a wasteland. Many journeys here have been attempted over the years. Few have returned. Due to the mountains, desert and rugged coast there are few avenues of departure. Over time, the Aswarian leader decided to banish a couple of traitors there (an unfaithful partner and their lover). It worked so well as a deterrent that people feared being labeled as a traitor. And some would set up their rivals to be caught as "traitors" and shipped off.
