Ernesh

Ernesh was a large city with a large subterranean sector in the desert during the Ayrithian Empire's heyday. Buried under the sands for years, parts of the city have slowly been rediscovered and excavated. The sands preserved much of the surface and despite the passage of time, the city was relatively unscathed. Some of the unfortunate souls that didn't heed the warning and evacuate perished and their remains have been found huddled in corners or splayed on the floor. Much was left behind in the hurried evacuation and it has been a fascinating snapshot into the lives of the Erneshians.
The first part of the city was discovered accidentally. A scouting party was hunting for a water source and their lead scout sunk into the sands as a hole opened up. The party managed to let down a rope, but not after the scout had a good look around. Realising their discovery, the party made careful notation of the location and returned with some archeologists and equipment and began uncovering more of the city. As they explored more of the city, they found some of the lower areas to be clearer than they expected and some possible signs of life. To this day, they have not discovered any survivors, but the signs were fresher than one would expect and there are rumours that a subterranean culture may have survived and adapted to life underground after the sand storm buried the city.

Defences

Unfortunately, despite the walls and guards, the defences of Ernesh did not save the city from the destruction of the gods.

Industry & Trade

Once they were the center of trade in the empire and had accordingly had a large marketplace. They had a large glass blowing trade along with jewels/metals mined from the land as they excavated and built more of the subterranean layers.

Infrastructure

The city was built primarily of sandstone. Cobblestone streets, Carved out buildings. Shutters of wood over the windows.

History

The city was founded by lizard folk and other heat acclimated people. They enjoyed the heat, but it was oppressive at times. So they started digging into the rock and creating subterranean cavernous buildings.

Natural Resources

Gases were linking from some cracks in the ground-it has caused some people to pass out.
