Circle of the Enlightened

In the city of Cognance, there is a constant disparity between the pursuit of knowledge and that pesky thing called "ethics."
Freedom to study and experiment is a core tenet of the city, but regulations still need to be in place to ensure an over-enthusiastic gnome doesn't blow up multiple city blocks. For this reason, a council of wizards was formed to establish rules, regulations, and limitations for magical research within Cognance.
In keeping with the academic spirit of the city, the Circle is open for any to join, provided they can afford its dues and membership fees and pass a preliminary aptitude test. And while the Circle works closely with the Crown and offers advice on matters of the arcane, it is a fully independent organization that answers first and foremost to its senior members and inner circle.
