Age of Change - Tales of the Sea
"Age of Change - Tales of the Sea" is a chronicle started at February 10th 2024 which is not finished yet at this day. The chronicle itself and the story is set on the Ivalis Archipelago, a vast array of volcanic islands in the Ivailan Sea, one of the Seven Seas in the world of Arceiron. Rather than the traditional high fantasy of other chronicles taking place in this world, the story is massively focused on seafaring adventures, following a band of pirates and buccaneers on their quest for glory, redemption, justice and freedom, when they try to fulfill their dreams and make their name legends. The chronicle is the sixth installment in the universe and cosmology of Arceiron, taking place in the same year as the chronicle Age of Change - The Garden of the Gods, which started at nearly the same time.
Since eons the Ivalis Archipelago is one of the most special continents in the world of Arceiron, since it is not a single massive landmass, but more a vast array of hundreds of islands, dotted in the ocean of the same name, the Ivailan Sea. Influenced by this natural environment the people settling there adapted well to the oceanic lifestyle. Seafaring is the most important ideology for the people living at the archipelago, influencing nearly every aspect of their daily lifes. Vast trade routes combining most of the islands, delivering goods from one place to another, while pirates of all kind and coleur trying to steal that goods, fighting with the Marine Corps for dominance above the ocean. And while the Queendom of Ivalis, consisting mostly of the people above the ocean and the Arthanis Empire, consisting of all beings beneath the ocean are just in an uneasy truce with each other, the Ivailan Archipelago Trading Company achieved a lot of power as the most dominant trade federation and the same time the pirates had become a dominant force in that struggle too, making the brooding conflicts between all this political factions even more dangerous. Beside that political struggles, massive sea monsters are a constant danger to all of them, while the same time long forgotten religions and the gods they praising lurk beneath the depths, waiting for a chance of return to power. Dark entities brood beneath the waves, weaving their schemes to influence the world above. And strange artifacts and magics of unimaginable power, lost in ancient times, getting recovered and returning into the world constantly. But beside all this dangers the Ivalis Archipelago is also the place of dreams and visions, where freedom and the fulfillment of individual goals and desires is the highest treasure someone can achieve. In challenging the ocean itself and being stoic against all the dangers, the promise of glory, wealth and power is worth all the struggle and so brings forth all type of seafaring folk searching for adventure and high reward.
The dawn of the recently started Age of Change had not influenced the Ivalis Archipelago that much like it did many other continents. Like all times before the inhabitants of this islands struggle in their dangerous lifestyle, fighting the ocean, the creatures from the depths and themselves for dominance, wealth and glory. The truce between the Queendom of Ivalis and the Arthanis Empire still consists, but not everybody is fine with it. The Ivailan Archipelago Trading Company had achieved great influence in the political structures, planning to put an end to the constant plague of pirates, which seems to have even become much more intense the last years. If they get to destroy the power bases of the pirates and the most dangerous of them, they could achieve even more influence at the archipelago. But the pirates are not willing to give up the freedom and the independence they declared for themselves, fighting constantly against oppression and control through some political organizations. They want to be free, sailing to the horizon and living their best lifes as adventurers, achieving a glorious name at best or a horrible end at worst. It's a hard life, but the inhabitants of the archipelago are strong and determined people, ready to take up all challenges the ocean has to offer on their quest to fulfill their dreams and become legends.

To achieve this, three things must be made: The code itself, who is one of the three sigils to keep the Riverdevil imprisoned must be restored by returning the four ritual pages to the book and renewing the sigil in this way. The pirates must be remembered to live to the code, despite the war at the ocean. They shall not leave behind their honor and identity just for the sake of survival. And finally there must be a new keeper of the code to force the pirates to live up to the rules. She joined the crew of Davian Flynt and Sirius Wavestorm in her efforts to escape Torretidal, soon enough became a full fledged member of their crew. When the crew got lost in the Plane of Water, the situation worsened dramatically, since it seemed, that there is no possibility of escaping the horrible fate of loosing themselves at the endless oceans of this realm. Calliope, who secretly is the daugther of Edward Bartholomew and who has the goal in mind to bring him back to life as the keeper of the Pirate's Code feared to loose any chance of fulfilling her goal when she stayed with the crew. So she betrayed them by taking the Compass of the Lost Sea, which she knows how to use and leave the Plane of Water, leaving the rest of the crew and the survivors of Menelaris Island behind, although with the artifact she would have been able to safe them too. She left behind a message to the crew, revealing her true identity and apologizing for her deeds, but the pirates never forgave her betrayal and up to this day they wait for meeting her again to execute the punishment, that betrayal inside a pirate crew brings.Trivia

- This chronicle includes a lot of elements of a traditional "high fantasy" adventure, but because of it's general tone and the setting itself it can also be seen as part of the sub-genre "swashbuckler fantasy". As such, it is the first chronicle in the cosmos of Arceiron taking place in this setting.
- In the year 2018 there was played a pirate themed One-Shot taking place in the world of Arceiron too, which was the first test of a swashbuckler setting in that cosmos. This first try was a success and so this part of the world got expanded heavily, especially the whole continent of the Ivalis Archipelago became much more detailed. Many elements of this first test are part of the canon world now and be an important part of the chronicle.
- The story sets part in the year 3175 AoM (which is the 5th year of the newly started Age of Change in the Timeline of Arceiron).
- The currency in this chronicle is not just simply called "gold", "silver" and "copper" like in more traditional settings. At the continent of the Ivalis Archipelago there are three types of currency: "gold doubloons" (being gold), "eight reales coins/piece of eight" (being silver) and "copper", which got not changed.
- The "eight reales coin" used in the setting is a historical type of currency, which got used in the era of piracy. In reality also called "spanish dollar" it is a piece of silver and was part of the spanish currency around the 16th century. Also called "piece of eight" one spanish dollar is worth eight spanish reales. "Reales" was the typical currency used in spain around that time.
- The campaign started with the use of the 2014 rulebook of Dungeons & Dragons 5e. Nearly the beginning of season II, in Autumn 2024, the new and reworked rulebook got released. From this point on, the new rules got put in use, so some content changed, for example some abilities of classes. This got implemented and explained in the story as best as possible to uphold the immersion.
- At the start of the chronicle none of the characters were part of a faction, but would get the chance to join some later in the campaign.
- The chronicle took heavy inspiration from some of the most famous pirate stories presented in gaming, cinema, literature and television like "Treasure Island", "Pirates of the Carribean", "Monkey Island", "One Piece" and "Black Sails".
- As part of the Arceiron soundtrack there are some songs depending on the chronicle in some way: "Our lawless Home" and "Captain of Woe" are songs depicting special events of the past of the Ivalis Archipelago, where the story takes place.
