Phoenix

The Phoenix is one of the more common creatures to see in mythology and art, even though it's rare to find in the world. They mostly just nest around areas of high volcanic activity or within the warmer parts of the desert and savannah. As the deserts grow lethally cold at night though, these birds will often dig themselves down into the sands and fuse their fire back into their egg while awaiting sunrise, which is when they'll burst back up like an activated mine.
This type of reincarnation has eventually doomed it's species to extinction though, which has puzzled researchers as to why such extreme measures would have been evolved. Something which has drawn mystics and occultists to believe that this species in fact is not endemic to the mortal plain, but the elemental one. Where they likely procreate through other means, such as the coalescence of fire aspected magic into living core rocks that take the shape of eggs.
Whether true or not, the fact that summoners have been able to call forth smaller versions of the phoenix from the elemental planes would speak for their credibility. Though with all things magic, it can't be fully ruled out that it's in fact just a mere flame spirit taking the shape of a bird through the perceived eye of the summoning beholder.
The phoenix is also revered in religious circles. The Ysandrian faith in peculiar regard this firebird high as the vengeance of Ysand. Drawn directly from the bird's composure in how it's usually peaceful to the point it is near tamed, though attempts at harming or capturing it can often lead to the phoenix embracing a rage that would make even the denizens of hell to quiver in fear, as it's most unforgiving and will remember and aim to take revenge on those who scorned it even through death. It has thus become a part of both the Ysandrian Inquisition and the Red Clergy's crests.

Special Abilities: On death, either by violent or natural means, the Pheonix is born with a rockhard egg in it's chest, which at the souls passing causes a burst of fire to call the soul back into the egg and incubate it with primordeal flames from within
