Ophalmitrus

“Only the silence of wisdom can quell the roar of the stormy seas.”

Appearance:

Ophalmitrus takes the shape of a giant of a man. Though aged and with long flowing white hair and beard, the god is depicted with a well trained brick wall of a physique.   His eyes are steel, and his face is wrinkled with an almost always neutral expression of a man that neither smiles or frowns.   His clothes are coloured a mix between pure white and ashen grey. Consisting of a pair of baggy pants held tight around his waist with a rope, along with a long wavy robe that is cut by the knees to allow the deity swift and agile movements. Even though he wears wooden sandals on his feet.   In his hands, Ophalmitrus wears a weapon known as the Storm’s Eye. An odd trident with a steel mace at the pommel, along with the side tips of the spear curved into a cross. To allow lethal strikes from every direction.

Divinity:

Though he is by far the most powerful and ancient ascendant deity within the Ysandrine pantheon, Ophalmitrus still has a smaller following and is considered to be the second and guardian to Ysand.   Scholars and historians believe such to be based on Ophalmitrus' rather odd combination of divine domains, as he is an aspect both of wisdom, calmness, compassion but also raging fury.   He is the father of wavelengths, knowledge, ambition and destruction. As such, making him an odd patron for mostly sailors, monks, philosophers and people of science.

Blood of Ophalmitrus

Those few that earn the favour of Ophalmitrus can be blessed with a condition known as Blue Blood. This condition looks exactly like it is named, where the lifeforce coursing through a person's veins takes a blueish almost cobalt hue.   This blood is a sign that an individual has their mind and body spiritually enhanced to hear and feel wavelengths around them. Thus granting them the ability to weave frequency and raw force, to a degree.

The Aquamarine Eye

Known as the divine symbol for Ophalmitran worship. The eye is an angelic relic said to have been forged as a counter for the umbral orb he accidently created in his blind ambitions.   It now serves as a symbol for self reflection, humble living and careful practice. To avoid making the same mistakes again.

Lore:

The world was wrought in chaos and its reality was on the brink of destruction. Heaven and hell bleeding over a broken land, as the first of humanity rose from the ashes of the Nephilim to fight back against hell.   Ophalmitrus was born the second. The brother of Carelian and his closest ally in the war against the devils from hell.   His methods were unorthodox though. Where Carelian and his son Ptyren would charge ahead wielding steel and divine flames, Ophalmitrus was clever and cunning to the point some perceive him as cowardly.   Hiding away in a great tower, the warrior-monk of eld pretended to betray Carelian. Swearing false fealty to the devils in a great plot to create an anchor between his little domain and the realms of heaven.   The true traitors would do the folly of joining up. Unwittingly carrying out a rite which was but a half lie.   Rather than hook in the realms of heaven, the tower stole the magical powers of the demon worshippers. Then, created a great portal in its centre where a gateway to hell was locked in.   Angered by this breach, an arch devil and his throng would appear from the underground. Wildly slaughtering his own followers, while Ophalmitrus patiently awaited for a time to strike.   When the battle was over, only Ophalmitrus and the devil remained. Though wounded and spent, all it took was one thrust of his spear, to finish the job.

Ascension:

Having dealt a killing blow to one of the generals of hell and even trapped the creature's soul within the tower, the man would carry out the action which eventually would become key to his ascension.   Reasoning that souls are made from pure energy and can not be destroyed, perhaps it could still be altered and turned into a weapon.   Infusing divine force with that of the corrupt soul, Ophalmitrus sought to create a massive explosive charge to send through the portal and wreak havoc on hell. There was but one slight little issue. When he tampered with the soul, a bomb wasn’t forged but rather a terrible orb to a realm beyond reality itself.   As he felt his own sanity being drained away. The man threw the orb straight into the portal, unleashing a vicious blast that crumbled the entire tower over him. Killing the physical body of the man, while tearing a massive hole into the void, within the realms of hell.   Due to his wisdom, cunning and purity of heart. The angels would reforge him as an ascendant. One with a quest that goes far beyond merely battling demons.
