Mage

Mage is one of the six base classes of an Arcanum Protector Class program, focusing exclusively on magic and invocations. They often serve as a ranged powerhouse in a team who specializes in elemental invocations or debilitating spells to aid their teammates in battle.

Career

Qualifications

To become a Mage, one must possess strong mana or an elemental aura within them. While not required, it is recommended that they have decent control of their mana or aura. In some cases, normal people can become a Mage if they are trained under a skilled Mage or Wizard from other worlds.

Career Progression

As part of the base classes, Mages follow the usual leveling system that increases their level based on their performance in their field along with their current reputation and their roles in their respective teams. While this class has no rank system, some Mages can become a Cyber Mage if they have sufficient mastery over Data Magic or an Arcana Technician, a special profession focused on enchanting tools and weapons with mana or aura. In some cases, they are also allowed to choose another base class as their sub-class with most of them choosing Warrior to become Arcane Warriors.   Also, one unique progression path for the Mages is that they can become Archmages, who are said to be the leading innovators of Core.

Payment & Reimbursement

Mages can earn money and experience through the Arcana Adventurer Board. If they are working with a team, they can also earn some of their rewards based on the team's agreement with them.

Other Benefits

True to their names, Mages are able to wield magic in any world they want. And as part of adventurers and protectors, they can travel to other worlds as they wish.

Perception

Social Status

Out of all base classes, Mages are known as the innovators of Arcanum due to their magic powers and their connections with more prominent figures from the past such as Queen Himura and Armand Colby. While they are deemed as heretics to worlds where magic doesn't exist, they are well-sought in the professional fields including the Rune Council security branch and other Protector-associated teams. They are also feared for their mysterious, yet powerful magic which may unleash them if they aren't treated right.   Also, Mages take leadership roles in their teams along with becoming strategists due to most of them are known to be manipulative and insightful of their surroundings. Adding to their ability to sense mana, they are a force when it comes to strategies and battles alike.

History

Originally, the Mage class wasn't part of the base classes when the Arcanum Protector system was first conceptualized as some of the council members and guild leaders originally saw them as suspicious and difficult due to other worlds having no magic or mana around them. Yet upon analyzing Queen Himura and Armand Colby's abilities and strategies in the field, who were well-known for their mysterious magic, they worked together with them to refine the class and created the first batch of Mages in the Arcanum Protector system as the second base class.

Operations

Tools

One of the main tools in their belt are staves, tomes, and wands depending on their mana level. But most modern Mages prefer using much more unusual magic conduits such as daggers, phones, or notebooks enchanted with mana or aura of their choosing. They are also equipped with mana-enchanted clothing or light armor to defend themselves against ambushes or magical attacks that would have killed a normal human being.

Materials

Along with their magical tools, they often carry magical stones such as Red Gemstones to cast spells, sometimes exclusively to the Wizard Class from Rune Midgard such as Stone Curse or the Warlock's ultimate spell, Comet.

Provided Services

Along with their roles in the front lines with their teams, they sometimes act as exorcists who drive out mana/aura-related curses and navigators who can sense them in any situation.

Dangers & Hazards

As with other classes, Mages are most at risk due to their lack of defenses and armor as wearing heavy ones disrupts their casting or invocations. They are also susceptible to exhausting their mana and energy if they overexert themselves or cast a difficult spell that was a bit higher than their current level.

Arcane
Legality
While Mages are allowed to perform magic, they aren't allowed to use them in public if they are outside Core or any magic-safe world such as Illuriya and Cybai to lessen the risk of revealing the Rune Masquerade to the public. They must also follow the world's laws such as storing their weapons and tools in any pocket storage when traveling by airplane.
