Arcanborne

The Arcanborn, also known as the Arcans, were small group of people that existed in the Pre-Ward Era. Since the end of the Magus War, which marked the beginning of the Ward Era, they are noted as an extinct species.   While their physiology resembles that of humans, there was much debate over classifying Arcan as a species or ethnicity. In the end, it was deemed to consider them a species due to many of the physiological differences that arise from Arcan's changing their bodies.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Arcanbone have complete human anatomy. Many differences that will happen will be of an Arcanborne's own personal choosing and style for body modifications, but one constant is pointed ears. These ears can vary in length. Another common feature, but not as universal as pointed ears are horns.

Biological Traits

It was thought that the Arcanborne lived longer than average humans until it was discovered that humans with magic were able to live as long as an Arcan.

Genetics and Reproduction

Arcanborne reproduce the same as humans, however the Chrysalis ritual is what grants them their connection to their magic. Non-Arcan scholars argue that this is what makes someone an Arcanborne, but the Arcan disagree, and actively hate such a view.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Arcanborne describe themselves as born from magic. The coming of age ritual named Chrysalis is what creates an Arcanborne. After this ritual, the Arcanborne have a higher sensitivity to magic being able to sense it in the environment.

Naming Traditions

Names carry a huge significance with the Arcanborne. They believe that your name should only be shared with those you trust and that random strangers knowing your name will have power over you. It is common for an Arcan to have two names: a "Private Name" (a.k.a true name) and "Public Name". This tradition is taken so seriously that parents of Arcanbone children will tell their children to only share their true name with the ones they love which lead to generations past that initial group to view the sharing of their private names as a nuptial sign.

History

Small in number, the Arcanborne were a varied group. The Arcanborne are a Pre-Ward Era group that is currently deemed as a species. While they are human, various physiological differences and practices that are recorded that are classified as birthing rites to make one Arcanborne are what made scholars classify them as a species as well as a group.     During a meeting of magic users, the Arcan were invited into talks with the Guardians representing the Arcan. Upon learning that the meeting was for the Arcan users to submit to a contract that would mark several of their practices unlawful and subjugate those not wanting to learn magic, the Arcan refused. This refusal lead to the Arcans to declare they would defend their way of life and those that Magus Faction would harm. This lead to the Magus War, wherein the Arcans showed how powerful they were as spellcasters and warriors, but their compassion outweighed their own strength. Many not wanting to hurt the ones they loved, even if it meant their end. In the tail end of the war, only one citadel and one guardian remained. In the final battle, the guardian lied slain but in an act of defiance they had created a ward that spanned the planet to block all magic.   As the Arcan were made of magic and needed to complete a rite to be recognized as Arcan, many of whom died in the war, the Arcan were officially labeled to be extinct but some scholars and theorists believe that when the ward breaks the Arcan will return.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Since they are a species by technicality, Arcanborne were known to have relationships with those outside their own. This is mostly due to the fact that the Arcanborne are skill classified as regular humans until they go through the ritual that removes the inhibition blocking them from connecting them to their magic.
Lifespan
115 years
Conservation Status
Though the Arcanborne are considered extinct, many on the council do not believe they are all dead after the ward's creation and rumblings of "The Fae" are seen by many as corroborating such an opinion. This belief is held so strongly that both Meridius and Haven councils agreed upon that if an Arcan is found, then they will be kept in the custody.
