WorldEmber Pledge of 2022 in Arcane Realm | World Anvil

WorldEmber Pledge of 2022

So it's 2022, that's 5 years of World Anvil! And now its time for World Ember to roll around again. Only recently I've been able to hit the 10,000 words mark so what's a better way than to do it again this year! Lucky for me the wonderful folks at WorldAnvil have gone out of their way to make a nice process to get ready for the event. So I will be following each weekly update in a meaningful way!     I jdtcreates, pledge to write 10,000+ words in December.
Week 1 Prep: Goals and Motivation   If you have more than one world setting, which one is the most important to you right now? Why?   Arcane Realm is my main world setting so I will be continuing it. I have 2 stories that I want start writing about in this world so much of focus will be on those details.   Which area of that world setting will allow you to achieve your goals (Continuing your novel/campaign, or starting a new one?).   Since the stories I am writing take inspiration from games (video and table top), much of my articles will focus on similar aspects of a campaign such as character classes, backgrounds, spells, techniques, and geographic locals related to the specific setting of these stories.    How will it help you achieve those goals?   By developing all these elements, I will basically no excuse for not brainstorming and outlining the actual plot for these stories. One has working title of Spiritual Safari, a coming of age story. The other is called the Four Vagabounds, a more campaign like adventure tale.   Week 2 Prep: Mini-Meta   Scope:  Generally will focus on aspects of society that my characters use to make a living (professions) or what they can do (techniques/spells), and where they live or will be going. Occasionally I'll likely write up articles for the organizations, flora, fuana, and fungi encountered in those areas as well.   Theme: For Spiritual Safari, the story is overall a coming of age story with aspects of spiritually, self discovery, and interactions between other groups. As well as a good amount of ecological and cultural preservation.   Four vagabonds has themes that relates to a phenomena known sometimes as "quarter life crisis", and the confusion and uncertainty that deals with. Not to mention I'll be writing a lot about wanderlust and discovery of places along with inner discovery.   Mood:   While both stories have moments of getting a bit "soul searchy" I would say both more idealist if internal and external work is put into work. Jacob Boldt (@icastbolt) has amazing article called Tone & Setting Alignment that I use to determine mood of stories, including my own. Its a bit tricky still but I would say both stories are in the upper left corner, with Spiritual Safari a probably Knightglow story and Four Vagabonds a more Graybright story.   Inspiration:   As I am currently playing my first D&D 5e campaign and playing Fire Emblem Three Hopes right now, both are likely going to affect my article writing interests in the months to come.
