Druid Profession in Arcane Realm | World Anvil

Druid

Druids are worshipers of nature, and typically a follower of Naturism or a similarly nature oriented religion or philosophy. Due to their ritual practices and lifestyle, they can attune to and specialize in themed spells that manipulates and influence the natural world, often including the environment, animals, and plants.
Druids are beings in touch with nature and its gifts. They rarely follow any agenda other than their own save for that of nature herself. They are the light or the darkness of nature. Still gifting Kaf with their knowledge or rather gathering it from her in their own interpretation of how life should be lead or perhaps to follow it. All will agree on one thing, if the land that they watch out for is exploited, the wrath of that guardian will begin a never ending hunt for the ones that dared intrude and then recover what damage has been done. This is the will of nature, the druid finding peace as its conduit, a way of life they will never be swayed from.

Career

Qualifications

Revering nature above all, individual Druids gain their magic from a nature deity, from nature itself, or both, and they typically unite with other Druids in performing rites to mark the passage of the seasons and other natural cycles.

Career Progression

Though their organization is invisible to most outsiders, druids are part of a society that spans the land, ignoring political borders. All druids are nominally members of this druidic society, though some individuals are so isolated that they have never seen any high-ranking members of the society or participated in druidic gatherings. Druids recognize each other as brothers and sisters. Like creatures of the wilderness, however, druids sometimes compete with or even prey on each other.   At a local scale, druids are organized into circles that share certain perspectives on nature, balance, and the way of the druid.     Circle of the Land   The Circle of the Land is made up of mystics and sages who safeguard ancient knowledge and rites through a vast oral tradition. These druids meet within sacred circles of trees or standing stones to whisper primal secrets in Druidic. The circle’s wisest members preside as the chief priests of communities that hold to the Old Faith and serve as advisors to the rulers of those folk. As a member of this circle, your magic is influenced by the land where you were initiated into the circle’s mysterious rites.     Circle of the Leaf     Circle of the Shifter     Circle of Stars   The Circle of Stars allows druids to draw on the power of starlight. These druids have tracked heavenly patterns since time immemorial, discovering secrets hidden amid the constellations. By revealing and understanding these secrets, the Circle of the Stars seeks to harness the powers of the cosmos.   Many druids of this circle keep records of the constellations and the stars’ effects on the world. Some groups document these observations at megalithic sites, which serve as enigmatic libraries of lore. These repositories might take the form of stone circles, pyramids, petroglyphs, and underground temples— any construction durable enough to protect the circle’s sacred knowledge even against a great cataclysm.   Circle of Sea     Circle of the Shepard

Other Benefits

Being a druid allows one to belong to a community that puts maintaining the natural environment high on their priorities, and bringing ecology and sustainability to a spiritual awakening and higher purpose.

Perception

Purpose

Druids are not just the religious leaders of the druidic orders; they also function as the advisors to tribal leaders, poets and entertainers, and even acted as legal experts, judges and arbiters in disputes.   In combat, druids can be effective mages that specialize in nature magic which utilizes or enhances aspects of the natural world such as animals, plants, fungi, minerals for a variety of purposes. Druids have a variety of ritual magic that grants them increased animal empathy or communication with animals and nature spirits and borrowing their abilities. Also common is weather, elemental, or plant manipulation as well as restorative healing magic.

History

Druids were originally the priesthood of the Celtic pantheon, the Tuatha de Danann. These ancient druids had enemies on their continent and due to most things being committed to memory as opposed to being recorded, mainly of their original traditions were lost after the Ghulat Wars. With the artifice age bringing unparalleled industrialization worldwide, those opposing the growing exploitation of the natural environment and its resources looked to whatever records of druids still remained. As such a sect of Naturism incorporated elements of the ancient tradition to form a revival of the order to gain acknowledgement to affect world affairs.

Operations

Materials

A druid holds certain plants to be sacred, particularly alder, ash, birch, elder, hazel, holly, juniper, mistletoe, oak, rowan, willow, and yew. Druids often use such plants as part of a spellcasting focus, incorporating lengths of oak or yew or sprigs of mistletoe.   Similarly, a druid uses such woods to make other objects, such as weapons and shields. Yew is associated with death and rebirth, so weapon handles for scimitars or sickles might be fashioned from it. Ash is associated with life and oak with strength. These woods make excellent hafts or whole weapons, such as clubs or quarterstaffs, as well as shields. Alder is associated with air, and it might be used for thrown weapons, such as darts or javelins.   Druids from regions that lack the plants described here have chosen other plants to take on similar uses. For instance, a druid of a desert region might value the yucca tree and cactus plants.

Provided Services

Druids have a variety of tasks the perform despite their shaman/hermit perception. Druids commune with nature spirits, ideally in order to live with them as equals and provide help that is mutual. (Its even becoming accepted for these beings to become followers and druids themselves).     Druids are also concerned with the delicate ecological balance that sustains plant and animal life and with the need for people to live in harmony with nature, not in opposition to it. Druids are often found guarding sacred sites or watching over regions of unspoiled nature. But when a significant danger arises, threatening nature’s balance or the lands they protect, Druids take a more active role as adventurers who combat the threat.
