Origin of Magic: Source

"Sorcerors must acknowledge the Source and accept their own limitations vs possible potential."
The Sorceror's Maxim

"The Soul and Source are one- much like all parts of your Eye makes your eye, right? Once you understand that all things are related, connecting through Ley and Source, you begin to step closer to understanding All-Life's deeper mysteries. What you're experiencing now, this doubt and uncertainty, is only the beginning! Everyone makes this initial step. Life will teach you how to navigate this den of unknowing, but the Source is the everlasting light, guiding and informing you now as it has before, as it will continue to do so, for all of Time."
— a Sage to an Adept on understanding one's relation to Source

Beyond the Meta-Rim, wherein lies Oah's Throne of Aeon, there are many mysteries kept beyond the Red-Veil Vault. Of those, Oah is said to be the keeper of the Eye of the Source.

Described as the Arcane Eye, the Origin of Magic, the Eye of Origin, and the Original Source of All-Life, this magical vortex is the nexus of All-Life energy, from which all material and immaterial potentials, energies and essences are in constant cycle.

Considered to be one of the Primal Creations left behind by the Original and safeguarded by Oah, this phenomenon channels energies to and from it, from everywhere all at once. Even the Gods are subject to its flow. It is an eternal font from which All-Life draws magic and miracles.

Alchemists and Scientists of Meta-Physical Laws seek to understand the mysteries of the Eye of the Source, but Oah prevents anyone from viewing any of the marvels that exist beyond the Red-Veil Vault.

Manifestation

What is "Source"?

"Source" is a constantly flowing energy between all things- it connects and branches, disconnects and divides. It gathers at the Origin, but it is channeled through a labyrynthian network of Leylines, twisting and joining at multiple points. Casters attune themselves to Source, learning the intricate patterns and languages, gestures and vibrations required for them to channel the Source properly.

Of Source, there are different distinctions, each with their own array of Sources contained within. This understanding helped to bridge early Casters' understanding of the Origin Eye.

What are "Sources?"

All Casters agree that "Source" is the Origin of Magic. All magical phenomenon are connected to the Origin that rules all Sources. Governs Magic, Force, Cosmos. Known also as the "Arcane Source" or "Arcane Nexus".

The Source of Geo is a collection of the seven elemental Sources: Fire, Water, Air, Earth, Lightning, Cold, Acid. Also known as the "Elemental Sources".

The Source of Fate is a collection of 4 binary elemental Sources: Light, Dark, Life, Death. These Sources are also referred to as the "Ley Sources". This Source also contains the "Undeath" Source.

The Source of Nature is a collection of a specialized Source: Nature, Animal. Plant, and Insect. The latter three are known as the "Kingdoms" or singularly as a "Kingdom" Source. Commonly refered to as the "Natural Sources".

The Source of Realms is a collection of dimensions. Good, Evil, Law, Chaos, Micro, Macro. "Micro" refers to cells, particles and micro- organisms while "Macro" refers to multi- cellular or multi- dimensioned, organic or non- organic material. Both refer to objects; this Source is also known as the "Loci Sources".

The greatest Source is the Divine Source, of which there is only one- yet it is divided amongst all the other Deities of the Cosmos. Unlike the other Sources, Gods and Goddesses share Source and Divine connections to other points of Source. A Deity can lose it's Divine rank by perishing, granting the one that slain the Deity a large Source of power, of which they can imbue themselves with the essence, grant the essence to another, or return the Source energy to the Origin.

The final Source is the Personal Source, also known as a Reserve. Caster's are connected to the Source, naturally. As such, they use this connection to channel the Source and the magic of their own Will. When a person dies, that energy returns to the Source; their Spirit either becomes a part of the Source or is released from the Source.

Mind, Body, Spirit, Soul Connection

The Reserve is a Caster's potential energy. They build stronger reserves through dedication to their Spellcraft, practicing new forms of magic, and experiencing the richness of the World. It is important for Caster's to understand how their Mind, Body, and Spirit relates to the Source.

The Body is a vessel of which is filled with physical material. It is of the Ley Corpus and thus it is given physical form in the material realm. The Body is a vehicle, driving the Mind, Spirit, and Soul through the physical Realms.

The Mind is an abstraction of the Body. It is subject to the experiences of the Body and it is subject to its own understandings of itself and its environment. It regulates the physical and mental processes that translate their desires to the Spirit and the Soul.

The Spirit is connected to the Body and Mind. Communicating with one another, the Spirit is in constant communication with all parts, translating those to the Source. While the Body and Mind are connected to the physical realm, the Spirit and Soul are connected to the Ley Anima, or spiritual plane. Spirits

The Soul is the connection of Source to the individual. Souls return to the Origin, where their energies are stored once more. Souls are Source- the Sijinn, for example, possess one of the primary elemental Souls. The "Fire Soul" is the culmination of the Fire Source. Understanding that Sources are energies that comprise the Soul is pivotal to understanding the basics of magic.

Psionics, Source of the Mind

There are those that believe that the Mind is a potential Origin of Source. Psions have many beliefs in regards to the Mind as Source that is reflected in the spells they cast, which closely resembles the Divine's powers and abilities. Psions are uncommon historically, but there have been those who develop special talents and spell-like abilities through use of advanced Psionics.

The controversy of Psionics comes from the Body-Mind-Spirit relationship. If the Mind precedes the Spirit, then does that mean the Mind is connected to the Soul in a way that the Spirit isn't? The theory of Psionics has been studied by Alchemists and Meta- Physicists for years, but the rare traits required for one to develop Psionics has been rarely possessed nor studied enough to prove as more than theory.

Arcane Eye

Casters have drawn a popular diagram, known as the "Arcane Eye." This symbol represents the relationship of Source to itself, each seperate part of its whole, and the Caster.

"Eye:" Total shape represents the Origin Source- Arcane Source.
"Iris:" The outer part of the eye is the Divine Source.
"Sclera:" These regions represent the Realm Source- Ley Sources.
"Light Reflection (Outer):" Drawn differently; represents the Fate Source.
"Inner Eye:" Often represented in 7 varying colors, depicts the Elemental Source.
"Pupil:" Often drawn differently to represent one Kingdom, Natural Source.
"Inner Pupil:" Caster, Self, as Source.

The Nature of the Ley and Source

Often included in a depiction of an Arcane Eye are eyelashes. These represent the directional forces that emits and returns the energies of the Source. These "Ley" are defined as channels between Sources to the material and immaterial realms.

"Ley" are connections of Source energy drawn between All-Life to nodes or other Sources. A node may be a great reserve of magical energy, such as a Gate but it can also be a person or object. Casters take on the role of a node or a conduit when channeling their spells.

Conclusion

The Eye of the Source is the Soul of All-Life, the Origin. All things return to the Origin. From the Origin, the infinite potential of All-Life. The Divine are as one, overseeing their Realms; they are closest to the potential. Physical and spiritual matter are seperated by the Realms; one will contain the other. Body and Mind are of the Physical, but the Spirit and Soul are of the Source. Channels, known as Ley, flow between the Caster and the phenomenon we call "Magic". Reality reacts based on the Will of the Caster to channel Source. Spells, within their frameworks, teach students how to use this energies as one would a tool, shaping potential future.

I love the idea of the personal source. Are there things a person can do to improve their personal source of magic?

That is a good question! In this system, all things emit a Personal Source, which is connected to the Source of all Sources. Arcaneoligists accepted the term "Arcane Source" because it described the universal energies which represents All-Source. I'm still defining my system but I could see from a mechanical perspective how that would work- items or enchantments that increase total MP or MP regen. Still playing with the idea of an "MP system" though.   I should specify in editing once WE is over, but since all things (people and objects) have personal Sources, this is what binds to magical effects and conditions. Say, when I cast a spell upon an object, it is our resonant Personal Sources which interact, one Will influences the other, and a magical phenomenon may occur. In exploring this, Magical Duels best represent the excitement of two Wills engaged.   Thanks for your engaging question! Love your work!
