A Hearthflame Matchstick comes with a book of 10 matches. This magical item allows the owner of the book to create small flames at remote distances up to 15ft. away. Matches from this book magically decay as the flame dies, leaving no ash or trace of its presence. It is an invaluable item for starting campfires, igniting a cooking stove or tinder, and lighting candles or torches. This item works in most ways like the HearthFlame spell, except it has reduced range.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

By striking the head of 1 of the 10 matches, a small fire appears where you designate- as long as the area meets the requirements of the Hearth Flame spell, the owner can ignite any fire within 15 ft. A source of fuel for the fire must be provided to keep the fire going. The matchstick disappears in a dissipation of magical energy. The owner of the Hearthflame Matchbook can have multiple targets for this effect. A Hearthflame Matchbook can be used to ignite multiple fires. By using 1 Action, the owner burns a new match for a new fire. Subtract 1 from the Matchbook each time this effect is used.

The owner can only have 1 active Hearthflame Matchbook at any time; the owner must use one Matchbook, unless that item has been lost or discarded. Matchbooks can't be used to light other matchbooks; flames don't ignite the matchbook, if left unattended. They will resist the fire if the owner isn't within 5ft.

Manufacturing process

The artisan creates a chemical compoud, using the sulfur as a combustible material. While rolling the ash of the incense into the compound, the artisan casts (or provides) the Hearth Flame spell and casts it into the ash of the incense. Together, a chemical compound forms, and the mixture is applied to the matchsticks, which have also been enchanted with a casting of the spell. Glue the matches into the matchbook and bind all spell components.
