Hearth Flame Spell in Arc Sagas | World Anvil

Hearth Flame

"There's nothing quite like returning home to a nice, warm, relaxing fireplace. Good thing I left some firewood beneath the mantle!"
— a Sijinn pilgrim

The Hearth Flame spell creates a small fire at campsites, bonfires, or fireplaces or a tiny flame on candles, torches and lanterns. The fire created by this spell is especially inviting; foods and dishes cooked over a Hearth Flame are especially tasty!

Effect

The Caster designates either a point or a subject for this spell. If the Caster chooses a point, a small fire appears at the designated spot. If a subject is chosen, the subject is lit on fire.

For both of these effects, the point or subject must be a target that normally accepts flames in its space. For example, if choosing a point for the spell, a designated camp site or fire place will suffice but there must be a fuel source for the flame (wood, coal, etc). For a subject, the spell must affect something that is generally used in a home for fires, such as a candle, torch, or lantern. The flame that appears is enough to light these small objects.

Hearth Flame is controlled by the Caster and can emit varying levels of heat and intensity. If someone touches the flame, it deals 1d4 Fire damage but it won't set clothing or hair on fire. Food prepared using an enchanted Hearth Flame spell provides a +5 bonus on the Proficiency check made to cook the food.

The flame lasts for 1 hour + 1/2 of the Psyche Modifier. The Caster can choose to end the spell at any time.

Side/Secondary Effects

This spell can be used on unattended sources of fire to extinguish them. As long as the flame is within a hearth, campsite or upon a torch or candle, this spell can be used to extinguish those flames. An item attended by someone receives a check to save against this effect. Unless the object has its own modifiers, use the owner's Proficiencies when making the save (DC:10+Psyche Modifier). If the spell is successful, the Caster can choose to enlarge the flame to Small (size of a normal campfire if this means that the one holding it will touch the fire, they are dealt Fire damage.

Manifestation

The Caster cups the magical words recited into the palms of their hand, then releases the spell with a wink of the eye. The eyes flash an arcane color (usually green or orange) before completing the spell.
