Coat of Consensus
... underneath the press of winter night, the Folk dream of morning's light.
"When you've been left in the cold, it is a comfort not to suffer alone. Share in my warmth, what little I have, and together we can ignite a spark between us. Bear through this cold night, and I shall be here to greet you in the morning."
Winters of the Ice Age were the harshest. They could come early and last through entire seasons, blanketing the land in blizzards. There wasn't always shelter from these storms, but there were communities of Folk, and a tradition known as the Coat of Consensus.
As a community, they gathered beneath the poles of a tapestry covered tent, and when night fell, the poles were released, dropping the cloth, and spreading its warmth to the willing recipients. Together, they survived the cold climate, continued their travels, and shared of the dreams they had that night.
Origin & Significance
The Coat of Consensus was first mentioned in the Era of Early Tribes, when the Myth Folk began recording history through the Arcanum. Creation was inspired by T- Bottan Studded Bedding, the nature of which inspired several personal records.
The Coat of Consensus included members from both the Myst and Myth Folk Tribes. Before the spread of Folk Culture across the super-continent, known as Mystomythia, these groups regularly met, eventually unifying under the comfort of consensus despite early language barriers. This aided in building strong bonds of kinship.
The need for survival often outweighed their current circumstances and misfortunes. As such, multi-cultural Kinship Tribes sometimes shared this tradition in emergencies.

Myths & Cultural Relevance
As the Tribal Nation of Mystomythia began to form, the Coat of Consensus continued to find use in their ceremonies. Whether as a tent covering or a lodge for meetings, many found the sight of the deep blue and pink bands of the Coat of Consensus to be a warm sight.
The Coat of Consensus was said to have a calming power, promoting restful sleep and shielding all dreamers from night terrors or nightmares when tucked beneath. In addition, those with special bonds experienced each other's dreams.
Dream of the People
Communal Dream of the People
At times during the restful sleep of the dreamers caught between the land and the Coat of Consensus' warm embrace, their Dreams meld together, creating a Communal Dream. Those who sleep beneath the enchanted cloak or communal blankets fold their dreams into discussion for the next day. They are able to use the dreams as shared inspiration.
This special tradition included the first Dream-Weave- a special cloth for chronicling one's dreams. Shared with those who had high affinities for Source, Folk were able to explore Magic in the communal dream through Dream Weaving ceremonies. Advancements in study of early Divinations were often inspired in their sleep.
This made the practice of the Coat of Consensus especially important to the creation of magical items and relics in the primitive Ice Age. Artisans found themselves in Dream Theater, where they could draw out their creative spirit before others and have conversations through empathy.
Warriors found themselves within open Dream Scapes, where their skills could be put to test through sparring and learning new Disciplines. These activities had the benefit of enlightening the dreamers without exhaustion the next day. The Coat of Consensus inspired many who kept the tradition alive.
Legacy & Legends
Folk Crests & Words
“A blanket the size of the Coat of Consensus must’ve hosted the grandest slumber parties,” Elsie mused, eyes alight as she imagined it. She met Rand’s gaze, her own blanket tucked closely around her. “Imagine the joy of a Dream Theater ceremony- lanterns glowing, laughter filling the night under the twin moons.”
Rand’s sigh cut through her daydream. “There you go again, with your bedtime romances. How am I supposed to sleep?”
“Shut up!” she said, cheeks flushing. “Not everything’s as crude as you, you know.”
Rand smirked, rolling over. His side of the co-ed dormitory was cold, a chill that Elsie’s warmth- rather, that blanket she adored- could ease.
Wouldn’t mind her voice, if it meant feeling that again.
