Blob

"A sense of great pressure seemed to rush from the forest all at once. Crushing through the snapping timber, a dark purplish sphere of slinging mass scattered globules as it rolled over the brush and into the clearing. The dark black eyes peered above two large, round pseudopods beneath, giving it the appearance of a moustache. The two pods beat the ground like drums before it hurtled the pod with heavy, dripping ichor!"
— a Blob attack on an expedition

The Blob, "Amorpho Glomp", is included in the "Ooze" order of creatures. The Blob is a 15-20ft. round diameter monstrosity that has evolved through the consumption of Slime and lesser Amorpho creatures. It is a towering, quivering mound of membrane. Much like the Slime, it hunts and consumes organic or inorganic material. For survival, this creature can eat dirt and survive, though it doesn't prefer this method. A Blob stops growing at 30ft. diameter, marking the largest known encounter with a greater Blob.

Basic Information

Anatomy

A Blob appears similarly to a Slime, except in Size and coloration. Whether it is a normal, "Color", or "Arcane" variant of the Blob, these creatures have immense forms. The outer membrane is much thicker and the eyes are no longer sensitive to sight, making Blobs much more active than their Slime brethren. This behemoth lumbers quickly with bouncing, rolling momentum to trample and engulf those who get in its path. A Blob is a destructive entity when unleashed in nature.

Biological Traits

Unlike Slime, the Blob is much stickier, able to change the stickiness of its body or its pseudopods. The fibrous material that forms the "moustache" are two enlarged glands for producing the adhesive texture of the Blob.

Genetics and Reproduction

A Blob reproduces through asexual budding and fission. This can only occur once the Blob has reached a certain mass. Once a Slime has metamorphosed into a Blob, it can reproduce more Slime. The Blob obtains a larger mass within 3-5 years. Once the Blob has reproduced, it will have distributed itself between 8-15 Simes. The Blob is consumed in this process.

Growth Rate & Stages

A Blob continues to consume matter indescriminately until the point that it can bud. This usually takes 3-5 years. Rumors of Blobs that live beyond this age and continue to bud are exceptionally terrifying.

Ecology and Habitats

A Blob still prefers subterranean environments; they provide much of what the Blob needs to grow. Unlike the Slime, however, they can hunt within bright sunlight, making them more adventurous than their more timid brethren,

Dietary Needs and Habits

Blobs consume matter constantly. Though they have longer periods of rest between successful hunts, they will emerge in a ravenous state once they remained dormant long enough.

Biological Cycle

Slimes grow until they have consumed enough mass to grow to around 10-15 ft. in diameter. This is when they begin their metamorphoses into a Blob. They go into a torpor for 1 month as their coloration changes and their size fluctuates, emerging as a Blob by the end of the month. Once a Blob consumes enough matter to divide, more Slimes are reproduced, the Blob having divided itself into Slimes.

Behaviour

A Blob is possessed of an animalistic need to feed and reproduce. It can only achieve the latter by performing the former. It only acts towards these impulses.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Blob live solitary lives, venturing out only to feed. They won't tolerate other Slime or Amorpho in their territories and will hunt them to the exclusion of other prey when they are found.

Domestication

Because of their territorial natures uncommon to Slime, Blobs can't be domesticated. The best one can do is avoid the territory of a Blob or give it enough space that it protects the surrounding land.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

"Slime Gel" is a byproduct created by Slime when they perish. Alchemically, it is used in the craft a variety of potions, as many Slime can be synthesized into curatives and infusions.

Slime Jam also has elemental properties when obtained from "Color Slime" and arcane properties when obtained from an "Arcane Slime".

Blobs also produce 2-5 Vials of quality Slime Jam.

Slime Jam has many applications as balms, salves, and other Alchemical curatives. Since Blobs can provide greater quantities of Slime Jam, they are often hunted for this resource. The dishes are delicious enough that Hunters risk their lives for the

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Blobs can be found all over the world, in many different habitats.

These Amorpho prefer dark, underground locales but can live mostly anywhere- even in arid or frozen environments.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

The eyes are now well developed and the sensory ability for picking up vibrations has been fine-tuned. The pseudo pods that are the "moustache" of the Blob serve as sensors for the purpose of hunting prey items and attacking potential prey.

Symbiotic and Parasitic organisms

Much like the Slime, the Blob has "Color" and "Arcane" variants, each with their own properties.

Color Blobs, or "Amorpho Glomp~ Prisma" is a magical Blob that has absorbed vast elemental energies. Not only is it protected from the element but it now can inflict the elemental damage when it engulfs or attacks others.

An Arcane Blob, "Amorpho Glomp~ Mana" is the most intelligent form of Slime, possessing a keen awareness of itself and its own nature. These creatures are much more careful than their Blob cousins. Arcane Blob are aggressive when hunting other Blob, as the normal Blob and other Slime tends to disrupt their territories.

Civilization and Culture

Culture and Cultural Heritage

The Myth of the "Blob King" has created popularized figures in its image.

Common Customs, Traditions and Rituals

"The Crown of the Blob King" is said to be a magical relic that can conjure Slimes and Blobs. Inspired by the Myth of the Blob King, this item is helpful in deterring Slimes and Blobs from civilization.

History

The Blob shares the characteristic of the Slime in living fossils of an Ancient Era. Since the Blob and Slime are of the few Amorpho that hunt others of its kind predominately, it is said this survival trait led to the preservation of its features through time. Blobs tend to be uncommon, but stories throughout history describe their girth and immense appetites, and the people that attempted to appease them.

[quote]"One of the locals told me this folk tale. Have you heard of the "Blob King?" They say it was a Blob that terrorized a whole city with an army of Slime! They say that old castle by the moor is where the Blob King reigned- long before the city of Ochre Grove. Perhaps we need to offer tribute to the King before we pass that old castle?" | a superstitious merchant passing through
