The Dame

The Dame is the largest theatre in Arburg, and is found in Eflaria . Theatre in general is a significant aspect of Arburg's culture. The royal family only attends showings at the Dame, adding to its fame. Generally, theatres shows a variety of plays and concerts, and Entertainers can book the theatre in advance for whatever they wish to use it for. This adds mystery to the theatre, as you cannot plan what you want to watch too far in advance. The Dame, however, is set apart, as it is the only theatre where the Royal family can request plays.

Purpose / Function

It is a place where actors, musicians and performers (basically Entertainers) can show off their talents to the people of Arburg and visitors from foreing lands and countries.

Alterations

The stage was once renovated when the Dame went through a particularly fruitful period. The stage was beginning to look shabby, and it was becoming too small for the increasing magnitude and amount of plays. In fact, once, an actor fell off the stage while performing a particularly emotive soliloquy, and that was when is was decided that action had to be taken.

Architecture

It is quite an elaborate-looking building, but is more practical and less expensive than it looks. There is a large stage at the one end, and then the cheap standing space. Then there are rows of seats, which are more expensive. The most expensive seats are in the balconies, which is where the Royal Family would get their seats. Behind the stage, there is a maze of corridors, dressing and storage rooms, which, of course, are only accessible to the Entertainers and their crew.

History

The Dame's construction was ocmmissioned by King Arthur. It took five years to complete, so construction happened from 74 to 79. it was the first theatre to be built, and was quickly followed by the construction of other theatres and playhouses. It was named the "Dame" after its magnificence and grandeur.
