Wenna Penketh

Headmaster Wenna Penketh

The headmaster of the mage tower in Sandholm, the capital of Eischland. This one sentence summarises her life pretty well as she puts her entire soul into her work. She always has even before becoming the headmaster when she worked as a teacher at the same mage tower. People see her as amicable, generous and hard working but very few feel that they actually know her on a personal level.

Personal history

Wenna was born on Stormbringer 6th, year 1778 of the Age of Awakening. Her parents were wealthy merchants living in Bricksten. She was the youngest of four children, having three older brothers. Wenna was never interested in her parents' trade but luckily she didn't have to be as they had no expectations of her taking over the business. There were after all three older brothers to rely on for that.   Instead Wenna grew up being very interested in history, especially history of magic and its uses for better or for worse. At school she was generally liked by her peers but she never quite made an effort to make actual friends. She preferred spending a lot of time alone reading, but no one bullied her for it. The few times anyone tried she only gave them a friendly smile and asked if there was something they wanted to get off their chest.   Approaching her graduation from general education, Wenna had figured out what she wanted to do next. She asked her parents if they would pay for her tuition at a school for mages. They agreed and wanting only the best for their daughter, they paid a ridiculous amount of money for Wenna to be able to study at the mage tower in Sandholm. Only the riches and most prestigious people studied there.   Even though she had grown up wealthy, Wenna felt very uncomfortable in the environment of the mage tower. She was there to learn as much as she could but she had the feeling that a majority of the students there were only there for the prestige of it all. Being even a novice wizard from the most expensive place to study magic was like having bragging rights. Nobles and other rich young people studied there for a year or less and then went off in the world to tell everyone that they were great wizards even though they knew a measly few cantrips and didn't care to actually learn more. It made Wenna angry. Knowledge and magic should be treated with respect.   Wenna studied at the mage tower for six whole years and then she was offered a teaching position. There was no one there who could teach her anything new. Wenna declined the position and moved to Inhonoris where they had a larger academy for mages. It was typically for elves only but with her affable personality and disarming ways, she was accepted for a trial period. The professors ended up loving her and she spent another six years there, studying both magic and history.   Once she had graduated from the academy of magic in Inhonoris, she returned to Sandholm. There she was once again offered a teaching position in the mage tower and this time she accepted. The headmaster of the time soon became uncomfortable with the fact that Wenna was such a young teacher and yet knew more than he did. She also wouldn't show any preferential treatment to nobles over the other students which angered some of them so much that they spoke to their parents. They tried to have her removed from her position. However, the current regent of Eischland interfered upon hearing what was happening. The regent met with Wenna and liked her and her ideas so much that they fired the headmaster and made Wenna the new one.   Wenna received the blessing of the regent to make reforms to the mage tower and the way it worked. Rather than charging a large sum of money from everyone who wanted to study there, she set up a system for donations so that they could educate those less fortunate for little to no cost for themselves. This was not popular at all at first but the nobles couldn't really do anything since the regent had signed off on it, and soon donations began trickling in. There was no longer preferential treatments for nobles by any of the teachers (and if Wenna caught a teacher doing so anyway, they were disciplined and in some cases fired).   Thanks to Wenna the mage tower of Sandholm became a place for those with an affinity and urge to actually learn magic rather than earn bragging rights. That is why Eischland now has a greater number of powerful mages who use their power for the right reasons.
