Professor Arcturus

Within the Collegiate Arcanum there are two main forces at play in the control of the school though one is very much subserviant to the other, Prof. Arcturus is the unfortounetly for himself in the role where his activities are at the mercy of another. Prof. Arcturus is in charge of making sure the school is running well, that students are learning and growing as mages for the college. For the college to succeed she needs to train them all quickly and with as minimal resources as possible. She does this with a calm and steady hand one that is unfortently hampered by the colleges other side of business. frequently taking students out of class for work placements rarely affords the Professor the time needed to properly train the students but she has little choice as the person with the true control of the school and it's functions is Elinor Ravenwood and she will broker no back talk or anything else when it comes to the duties that must be discharged by it's non-paying students.
”If you take them out of school all the time they will simply fail or worse become injured you must see reason...“ - Prof. Arcturus

Appearance

Despite being a professor at the Collegite and its headmaster she is not an old woman far from it she is barely into her 30s. An infernal touched and pale skinned woman her eyes are the colour of gray skies and her hair shares a shade with lilacs. She always comports herself in wizardly battle attire prefering it to anything else even her official professor or headmaster robes. As she still is in debt to the school as well and continues to pay it off she wears a modified choker of binding that appears like a beautiful necklace but those who are in the know and have the skill recogonize it for what it is. Of her two horns though one is broken off due to an old injury sustained when she was a child

Personality

Since becoming Headmaster Prof. Arcturus's mood and personality has shifted from one of optimisim and heroics to resignation and frustration. She is constantly under fire to train better and faster recruits all the while seeing more and more of them chucked into the meat grinder that is the schools main method of procuring funds. She takes every loss personaly and writes to every parent of a student that is killed in action despite in some cases the parents selling troublesome magic users to the school itself. Still despite all of this Prof. Arcturus on a good day takes the time to make sure her students are taken care of and they know someone is looking out for them and she does her best to shield and save the ones she can.

Background

Like many students in her track Prof. Arcturus was brought to the Collegiate when she began demonstrating a talent for magic, in her case the specific talent for infernal summoning and control likely due to her infernal touched nature. The specific incident that brought her to the Collegiates doors was when she summoned and bound a lesser imp to be her friend because she was lonely.   The collegiate was not all bad for her they fed and clothed her and unlike her parents were not trying to hide the daughter that sprouted horns when she was 3.

Student Life

The contract regarding her schooling was explained to her along with the interest rates she would be forced to pay if she wanted to continue schooling here. The other option was of course was confinement and isolation due to her potentialy dangerous magical gifts. She agreed and was placed into class immediately where she excelled, and advanced at a truly astonishing pace. Her time in school then was mostly good until her teachers felt her ready to leave and take on assignments.   Like most of her peers she was farmed out to any manner of person to meet the needs that only magic could take care of, for Prof. Arcturus that meant usually summoning of devils to faciliate contracts, provide muscle or even simply to gain insight into the ways of devilry. Her skills were always in high demand as what was the cost of a soul compared to riches and wealth. Many of these people were of course killed by foolhardy contract negotiations but some were a bit more wiley and managed to get what they wanted in life before being devoured by the jaws of hell.   One of her assignments though would go terribly wrong the muscle hired nowhere near adequete for the job required which resulted in the loss of every other student sent out along with the injury to her horn she maintains to this day. However the assignment itself was a success and as the only survivor much of the funds and prestige allocated to the job fell to her, not enough to end her servitude but with the right amount of planning maybe one day.   This of course would require her to get employment outside of the school and there was no way the administrators were letting that happen, using their influence when the old headmaster retired they offered the position to her and essentially forbade anyone else from hiring her.

Headmaster

She has now been headmaster for 5 years slowly saving her coin to allow her to leave and prusue her own journey and discoveries. The administrators have done everything in their power to stimy this and it is known they have an increcingly adverserial relationship. Still she has done what she can to improve the lives of the students here and inadvertenly she has made massive improvements to the morale and death rate of the students which is of course delighting the administrators and making them want to keep her where she is all the more.

Relationships

None, though it was rumored at one time that she had an illicit affair with a teacher at the school in her final year. Nothing was ever proven of course and no names were mentioned anywhere.

Allegiance

There are rumors that she has some sympathies to the Unseen but nothing concrete has ever turned up on any investigation
