Great Tree Leaves

The leaves above Arbor block out much of the light that would reach the ground in the great city. So much so that the city gained a second name as the city of twilight, but these red leaves are also equally useful and early in Arbor's history were used as building materials and clothes, once they could be cut. The leaves are incredibly hardy things and once dried out make excellent shields or even walls. The leaves of The Great Tree protect the city of Arbor in more ways than one.
"They fall so slowly but they are heavy things so be careful not to get crushed by a falling leaf johnny you're liable to break your arm" - father teaching his son about the dangers of falling leaves

Appearance

The leaves of the Great Tree are enormous blood red coloured maple like leaves. They are large enough to completely cover a the breadth of a city street so great care is taken to attempt to remove and acquire them before they fall to the city below though this is not always the case and on occasion a rogue leaf is liable to descend slowly to the city below. Those who get close to newly fallen leaves say that there is a strange glow about them, that they seem to have a strange inner light. For the lucky few to get close enough to smell one though there is an odd sensation of sorrow that descends along with the smell of blood, though this quickly fades.

History

The leaves have been on the Great Tree for as long as anyone can remember and they slowly have fallen and shaded the city of Arbor for its entire existence.

Capabilities

The leaves are extremely durable on their own and can be dried to create a makeshift shelter that will repel everything even the strongest of gales and worst of rains. In addition the leaves are used to make Great Tree Fiber which provides most of the clothing for the people of Arbor. Finally the Leaves can be burned and will burn for a long time providing much needed warmth in the long winter months.
