Deckers

A once proud and noble family now reduced to a single member that wants nothing to do with the name he has inherited. The Deckers and their vast fortunes were once synonymous with trade and the dock Branch in Arbor. These days their name is uttered like a curse by the rich and powerful and a hope for a better future by those downtrodden. For better or for worse though the Deckers have secured themselves in the annals of history.

History

For as long as the docks in Arbor have existed the Deckers have owned them and that is their main claim to fame well that, and dueling. The Deckers rose up through the ranks of the Order of the Fallen Leaves is much the same way many of the old families did. For their efforts they were awarded several lucrative contracts and eventually control over the entire docks. It was at this point that the family ballooned and intermarried across the city either for political gain or simply for love each was done in equal measure.
Slowly the Deckers became more and more powerful but perhaps it was fate or simply chance but during the last 50 years or so the current bloodline did not produce any heirs either because marriages dictated changing of names in the case where the married into family was more prestigious or simply that a Decker died in some kind of duel which they were all too fond of.

A Duel and 2 Deaths

Eventually there were only a few that still carried the name of Decker, the Patriarch who at this point was well past his siring days and his last remaining Grandson. On a fateful day in spring the young boy was scheduled for an honor duel one he was assured to win and wasn't to death anyways so shouldn't have been in any danger. At the same time the Patriarch had come down with a bout of pneumonia but was expected to recover, When it came to pass that the Patriarch had died that day as the disease spread quickly and the grandson had slipped and fallen on his own sword in the duel there was a mass panic.

A change of Hands

With no true Decker remaining and the vultures circling something had to be done quickly and sordid love affairs quickly were brought up to hopefully find someone who at least legally could carry the name. The branch families scoured through diaries and love letters looking for anyone they after two days of their allotted week before The Silver Council would renegotiate who owned the Docks they found a young man Noah Decker. Born as the result of a dalliance by one of the Decker girls who had been banished from the family after having an illicit affair with a young dock worker. Noah was the sole remaining heir to the Decker estate, unluckily for the branch families who stood to gain from this Noah was no fool and he had no love for the Decker family having been the subject of their brutal regimens. He put plans into motion that transferred ownership of the docks over to the families that worked them.
The Branch families retreated at this point and attempted to let the Factory Bosses get their revenge for them but Noah was clever and the Dockers were behind him and to this day he sits as the The Dockers representative on the Silver Council.

Assets

These days not much of anything, Noah took much of the family fortunes and put it towards the Docks and their upkeep which was sorely needed along with transferring ownership of most properties the Deckers owned into the hands of the company itself.
Noah himself lives in rather modest accommodation preferring the feeling of the water swaying underneath him from the gentle rhythm of the waterways of Arbor, so spends much of his time on the Last Safe Place in one of the many staterooms.

Socio-Economic Status

While technically they are still a respected family they are something of a pariah in higher social circles owing to the fact that Noah has shown that a simple mistake can ruin centuries of rule very quickly with the right motivation.
