Bright

Bright is either a saviour to a mage or a curse depending on who you ask. On the one hand it's effects cannot be understated but on the other it's drawbacks can be a fate worse than death.

Effects

Bright is first and foremost a narcotic giving a user a sense of euphoria and lightness. In addition to this though in any kind of spell caster it can temporarily grant them an additional use of magic and in some rare cases exceed their natural limits allowing them to cast spells of higher echelons than ordinarily able to. Of course none of this is without risks and in rare cases mages have exploded from consuming too much Bright

Side Effects and Withdrawal

As a side effect of taking Bright a user is easily identifiable by their softly glowing eyes or in the case of prolonged use glowing skin. Users seem to radiate light in a way that would make angels jealous. In addition to these effects users of Bright have reported hearing voices and sounds not of this world including ones from relatives they know to have died sometimes very recently. Along with these unsettling side effects long time users of Bright have noted a strange compulsion to travel to The Great Tree and ascend it's branches.
Coming down from bright is similar to coming down from other narcotics with users feeling lost scared and alone as the world around the loses it's euphoric tinge and the harsh reality of the world comes into sharp focus. This can lead to headaches, joint and muscle pain along with the usual vomiting and cursing of this far too bleak world.

Bright is sold on street corners by The Dust Mites It does makes its way into other areas of the city though the mites are careful to avoid leaving their home turf to get it there.
