The Hopper

Written by Noah_Oowada

Borgus Finwick and Desmond Veringard invited a rather peculiar looking machine called 'The Hopper'. The two-legged machine with two beams for eyes is suited for ragged terrain and perfectly balanced for running, jumping and climbing. Its flexible joints allow for quick steps and turns, making it work in pretty much every situation imaginable. Borgus developed a special resonance system. The Hopper recognises different kinds of floors, being able to differentiate between moss, swamp, dirt, stone, wood and more. It adjusts its soles accordingly and enables the user to travel comfortably. Due to its hard, metallic exterior, the two coredwellers love to use it for cave exploration and fighting.   The halfling inventor Finwick has a knack for extraordinary machines and gadgets. Apart from devices that assist his sense of sight in dimlight circumstances, he helped Veringard with his personalised weapon, a gun that charges his bullets with his arcane energy. Also, he was one of the driving forces behind the barracks inside the core cave, making him one of the most valuable members of the core cave's society.   During its development, the vehicle was tested inside and outside of the core cave, continuously tweaked and lend to other members of the surface communities. The Dûngar and the Dânmaer dwarves showed great interest in his blueprints, making him one of the few coredwellers who were allowed to meet Konkôr Barbendt's tinkerers after their transformation.

Power Generation

The engine is powered by one of Veringard's motors, using arcane magic to transform magical energy into movement. Since the arcane core is most prominently felt in the Wilderness, the two inventors had the best circumstances to test the vehicle, making it pretty much unbeatable in the Wilderness terrain.

Weapons & Armament

The Hopper carries a large chest with long-range and short range weapons, is able to kick and jump on its opponents. If supplied with enough magical energy, it can shock and blind its opponents with its eyes.

Armor and defense

It is supplied with physical and magical protection. Due to its metallic surface, strengthened with thin starsilver, it can endure explosions and bludgeoning damage without much of an issue. Heat, ice and magic missiles can be shielded with its arcane shields. These can be enhanced if its users are either coredwellers or strong arcane mages.

Communication Tools & Systems

The Hopper is supplied with an intricate microphone and speaker system. Users and builders are encouraged to make use of the message spell, since its range will be increased via the Hopper. This is particularly useful in dangerous situations and during war.
Borgus Finwick is a halfling turned coredweller who has barely reached the age of 65 (about 35 in human years) before he became a coredweller. Even though he spends most of his time in the core cave, inventing and researching for Desmond and his godchildren, he can be found on the surface once in a while, spending time with his younger sister in Corcovah and Lemdaux. He is a brilliant researcher and witty travelling companion who enjoys the thrill of scientific progress.
For those familiar with the core cave and its inhabitants, Borgus Finwick and Desmond Veringard are two of the most well-known dwellers in and around the Wilderness. Since they are both blessed with rather long lifespans, they have managed to keep themselves and their bodies intact for a while now. Borgus and Desmond are strictly loyal to each other and assist all those that are turned into coredwellers not too long ago. Their barracks are the biggest ones in the East of the cave and house dwellers of all walks of life. They pride themselves in being the hope of the cave and manage lots of the paperwork connected to it.
