Dewdrop Lilies Species in Aradeia | World Anvil

Dewdrop Lilies

In the Wilderness, especially the spaces between Sithaline City and Lorla, grow the inconspicuously looking dewdrop lilies. With their familiar looks and beautiful shimmer, dewdrop lilies are often plucked to be put into bouquets, without the hobby florists realizing that these flowers are highly toxic and of arcane nature. If kept fresh and close to their admirers, the gasses emitted by its pistil cause intense hallucinations and nausea.   Nyran Aleamitor, adventurer from a foreign continent, encountered these flowers on one of his journeys through the Wilderness and soon noticed a strong familiarity to a flower he had used in his own alchemical concuctions before. According to his findings, flowers like the dewdrop lily are perfect components for illusionary potions as well as truth serums. Nyran himself was able to brew a concentrated syrup that enabled him to manipulate what the drinker of his potion saw in front of them. Using this for his benefit and making sure that every consumer of his drinks were perfectly fine after what had happened, he sent a more or less anonymous letter with his results to the High Academy of Sithaline City, using the nickname 'Diamond' as his signature. He encouraged them to warn the public about the effects of dewdrop lilies and to tell them to refrain from ever putting the flowers into water if they find blossoms like these. They are less effective and less dangerous when they are dried or cooked.

Basic Information

Growth Rate & Stages

Dewdrop lilies are quite invasive and aggressive flowers who are only limited by the area they usually grow in. Since they prefer the warm, ashy surroundings of the Wilderness, water is often scarce. Therefore, the plant is usually found in bushels of three or five. The flower matures after about three weeks of growing and blossoms for the first time after four weeks.

Scary that hobby florists just pick them because they are pretty! And they ARE very pretty.

Thanks for reading, Deleyna! During Summer Camp, I had some time to refer to the hobby florist problem: In Aradeia, there's the so-called 'Amora' flower that looks very similar to the Dewdrop Lily. They're mistaken for the other all the time. The Amora is a flower that people use to propose and gift to young couples. You can imagine the chaos if they accidentally take a dewdrop lily to one of these events!

Around where I live, we have Queen Anne's Lace which is lovely. And now, for some reason, we have hemlock - which is exactly what you think it is. There have been a lot of issues this past year with people mistaking hemlock for Queen Anne's Lace, prompting a PSA showing the difference. (One is 3ft tall, one is 6ft tall... so...) Unfortunately, after that, I discovered that I have quite a bit of hemlock on my property!!!
