Studied under Kramothel Runebeard, who was at the Dwarven Embassy Alador - City, to learn tremorsense as a part of his Stone Cunning proficiency.Thoradin's Mentorship
(After Session 34 - Frost Giant Schmebulock) After the battle Aeden Mitgarn II invited Thoradin to spend some time at the forge of the dwarven embassy. While there he spent some time with Kramothel Runebeard, a Master Dwarven Mason. Kramothel’s ancestors were some of the dwarves who helped to carve out the great halls of Balheim, and to build the port city of Nóatún. Kramothel’s great-great-grandmother married into clan Ashenforge, to the brother of Thoradin’s great-great-grandfather. Kramothel and Thoradin spent most of the day and half the night recounting the great deeds of each of their families, both wanting to outshine the other as all dwarves do when talking of their families. And they drank their way through much of the ale on hand. Some few hours before dawn Kramothel stepped away and returned with one of Aeden Mitgarn’s hidden casks of ale sent to him as a gift from the head of Clan Stormvein back in Balheim. It was as this valued cask was nearly empty that Kramothel revealed a secret skill known only to the great masons of Clan Runebeard. Along with being able to recite the history of every shaped stone and brick in Balheim and most of Aladore, Kramothel had grown so skilled in his Stonecunning that he was able to use tremorsense, a talent mostly used by various creatures of the deep underdark. He could reach out his senses through the rock, over a short distance, and sense if anything else was there. His skill was so keen that he could even feel another creatures breathing. And no, not just the snoring of other dwarves. Anyone can sense that. Thoradin laughed, thinking that Kramothel was tugging his beard for fun. Kramothel then paused, set his tankard down next to him on the stone bench where he rested, and started to tell Thoradin that there seemed to be a small creature, probably a rat, scurrying around in the storeroom next to them, two dwarves were sleeping in the chambers above them, and a guard was shuffling his feet as he tried not to fall asleep just down the hall outside their drinking chamber. Thoradin peeked out the door and was amazed when he saw the guard there. He could see him shuffling his feet a bit, but barely heard the leather boots on the stone floor. Thoradin asked if he could learn this skill. Kramothel was quiet for a long time as he finished his tankard of ale and thought over his distant kin’s request. Finally he agreed. Not because of their kinship, but because of what Thoradin and his friends had done for the city of Alador, and because he was the wielder of Valkyrja. If any dwarf outside of the Runebeard clan was worthy of learning this skill it was Thoradin. The next day Thoradin packed his belongings, leaving the bag of holding with Cernan until his return. He then leaves Aladore to go into the nearby mountains with Kramothel to work on hearing the stone. Thoradin swore he would return in a few weeks after he’d spent some time with his new mentor.Relationships
