There are a multitude of different ranks and titles in my world, some of them are equivalent to each other, and can come from various countries. Some of these ranks are royal, noble, civic,  etc. Some of these ranks include Emperor/Empress, King/Queen, Prince/Princess, Duke/Duchess, Earl/Countess, Count/Countess, Baron/Baroness, Baronette, Viscount/Viscountess, Marques/Marquess, Mayor/Mayoress, Knight/Dame, Corporal, Captain, General, Sergeant, Colonel, Cadet, Premier, Skipper, Squire, etc. 
Some of these ranks are hereditary, elected, appointed, awarded, etc.

Length of Term

For most it is your lifespan, then it goes to your heir if the title is hereditary. Appointed, and elected titles depends on your overlord council or guildhall.
